ASATUA Meeting Minutes February 15th 2007
Lori Bish was there having found this one open date in her Pac-10 schedule to come talk with us. She talked about 10 minutes on the female umpire and the similarity to minority umpires and what we can all do to help each other achieve our goals. "Wild" Bill Silves did not make it to the meeting apparently he has the same cold I got in Oklahoma City it must have been in the beer. But Tim Douglas from SMSUA brought SMSUA's lap top and power point presentation to cover 2007 rule changes, pitching, batting, and the strike zone. In addition I present information on a fund raising concept for ASATacoma Umpires Association and showed the information available on my website plus why, when, and where the National Umpire schools are in our region. I also had the opportunity to show off the new interactive Umpire mechanics CD and talked about having available to us at the ball park. 17 umpires from our area where present plus the two dignitaries mentioned before. This is a good showing but I would like for you to join us for next Thursday's training meeting 6:30 at the Spanaway library and don't forget Sunday February 25th 11:00 AM at Lincoln High School (old Mt Tahoma) Gym. We will be done in time to get to WWUA's meeting at 4 PM. I look forward to seeing you there. There is a chance that Jack Floyd will join us next Thursday and maybe "Wild" Bill will be well enough to stop by as well. Dealing with the line-up,DP/Flex and we will have a living line up to work through.

ASATUA Meeting Minutes January 15th 2007
ASATUA held it's first meeting January 15th. Most of the discussion centered around if and why a local association was needed. The difference between SMSUA and Sea/Tac Metro was discussed and how ASATUA would fit into Sea/Tac metro was explained. It was finally decided that a local association was needed to represent umpires in ASA. However no one was willing to step forward to take on leadership positions. Only myself as the UIC and Liz Losinger as Secretary/Treasurer stepped up. Still looking for someone to fill the President and Vice- President positions.
The legal steps and hoops and costs where discussed and determination to proceed was made realizing the amount of time this will take to complete.
The need for local training was recognized as a function that the association needed to fill. Locations and dates for training needed to be further researched by the UIC and Secretary. Once determined the information to be disseminated to the membership. The availability of training materials and support from Sea/Tac Metro was offered by Sea/Tac Metro UIC Tom Henderson.
Further discussion covered ASA regional clinic locations and dates. Tournaments fastpitch and slowpitch in Tacoma dates. Post season championship opportunities and how they are chosen in 2007 and 2008. Information about ASATUA BBQ and Social on May 28th was presented.
Payment of umpires was discussed and will continue to be discussed in future meetings.
