Tuesday, February 3
Arsenal FC is a U-18 team in PAWest. We play in the Spring Outdoor league and we will travel to 1-2 tournaments in May & June. The tournaments we plan on are the AIM tournament in Buffalo on Memorial Day weekend (Sat/Sun) and possibly Jarosi-Willis in Columbus (6/6).

Practices are at the turf field of Beaver High School Stadium.

Interested in learning more? Email our coach or our manager to see about joining! Or come to our next tryout/practice (see the schedule above - it will appear on our home page one week in advance).

Check the "Practices" page to see details on the location. Click on the location link and get a Yahoo! map for the location.

Have friends looking for a team? Bring them along! We are looking to have the largest U-18 team possible (max of 22 can be rostered).

The Final Season Ends

After 7 years and 9 seasons, fielding a team in every year from U12 to U18, the Arsenal 90/91 Girls team comes to the end.

A great group of girls moves on to College after ending their Cup playing days. Julia and Alex head to Virginia Tech. Shayna is off to Allegheny. Jenna goes to Penn State, while Rachael starts at I-U-P. Gretchen is enrolling at Robert Morris, while Chrissy joins former teammate Cassie at Waynesburg. My daughter, Janna, heads north to Erie to study Archaeology at Mercyhurst College.

We wish them all the best. It's been a wonderful 7 years.

Father's Day saw us wrapping up a tournament in Columbus, OH (Jarosi-Willis) under sunny skies and warm weather. We once again played the eventual champion to a scoreless tie. While we scored just once, we created a lot of chances this weekend and gave up just 2 goals in 3 tightly-played games.

This followed four tie games at the Amherst Invitational over Memorial Day (tying the champions 0-0 and three 1-1 games). Seven games and SIX ties! But not a drop of rain fell on us at either tournament, everyone played great and went home happy and injury-free.

Keep an eye open for our tryouts as we look to get a jump on the U18 season!

Looking back on the Spring season
Last Fall we had a winning record and outscored opponents. This Spring we were 2-11-3. So we must not have gotten better, right? Well, not so fast.

Let's take a look at the 2 seasons. Last fall we played at the bottom of PAWest. Using the rankings from on the tournaments we went to we find that Hudson isn't even tracked and Hempfield is a "Copper" tournament. We also played in the lowest level at Hempfield.

This Spring we moved up in PAWest playing much tougher competition (including the State Cup finalist) and went to 2 tournaments (MASC and AIM) rated higher than the ones last Fall. MASC is considered a "Bronze" tournament and AIM is "Copper", like Hempfield, except we played in the TOP bracket at this one.

So, tougher league play and playing in higher brackets in tougher tournaments - there's the difference.

Some of the good news on our recent outdoor season (16 games):
  • We have become a team that consistently beats the weaker teams in PAWest. Our record against these teams in Fall and Indoor was 8-1-2
  • We were outscored in the Spring - but only by 1.8 goals per game
  • We lost by 3 goals or more just 7 times - 4 of those teams are ranked by in their respective States.
  • We gave up 4 goals in a game just 3 times

Overall, this Spring was a step forward for the team - whether it felt that way or not!

It seems hard to believe as it feels like the team has had a game every week since September of 2003 - that's 21 months - but the outdoor season is over. Because we are moving into U-15 next year and the girls will all be in High School, there will be no fall season. So the next Arsenal game won't be for SEVEN MONTHS in January of 2006.

As we go through soccer withdrawal, here are best wishes for the girls to make their HS teams in the fall and all come back after the fall season to our practices in November.

What a Great Season!!!
Arsenal finishes the PAWest outdoor season with a 3-1-2 record and a +8 goal differential. The only loss came on the back half of a 1PM/4PM doubleheader. Seventeen goals were scored by 8 different girls with leading scorer Sydney Huerbin leading the way with 5 goals.

The defense, led by keeper Danielle Lindsey, gave up just 9 goals in 6 games (3 of which were in the second game of that doubleheader). When the defensive performance in the early season Middletown tournament is added in, the squad has given up just 11 goals in 9 games. On to Buffalo for the Amherst Invitational!!!
