Arrowhead 11y/o's continue the unblemished record with a win against Canyon Del Oro (CDO).
On a very wet Thursday night in Nogales, the Arrowhead 11 year old All-Stars held onto a 12 - 8 victory against a very difficult all star team from Canyon del Oro, the District 5 champions (CDO was also the state champions from last year for 10/11 year olds).
Arrowhead were the visitors, and again got off to a hot start scoring a couple of runs in the 1st inning. Ricky Tuita led off the game with a walk, and after a strike-out was driven in by Cameron Cannon's triple. Ben Cavaletto then grounded out to 2nd, getting an RBI as Cameron was able to score.
Colby Wyatt got the start on the mound, and gave up a lead-off single, but then Arrowhead did what it has done all post-season - PLAY GREAT DEFENSE. This time it was by Ben C. at 1st base. CDO's second batter hit a hard bouncer to Ben at first, who was able to tag the runner trying to advance to 2nd, and then had enough time to run to 1st to get the double-play. On the next play, Ben made a great grab in the dirt on the throw from the shortstop to get the 3rd out of the inning.
Arrowhead was able to score 3 more runs in the 3rd inning of a Devin Ray walk, singles by Ben C. and Cameron, and an RBI groundout by Troy Turner. The bottom of the inning saw more sensational defense by Arrowhead. After a lead-off walk, the runner was picked off 1st by a great throw by Troy to Ben C. at 1st base. CDO then managed to score a run off consecutive doubles, but then Arrowhead's defense stepped out yet again. CDO's next batter hit a grounder to Cameron at shortstop, who threw over to Ben C. at 1st for the out, who then threw over to Taylor Field at 3rd, who tagged out the runner trying to advance from 2nd to 3rd. Another double-play for Arrowhead to end the inning.
Tanner Scott led off the 4th inning with a single, and then was brought in by a triple by Easton Hunt. Ben Anderson then followed with an RBI groundout to the second baseman. Devin was up next and got a double to left field, and that is when the rains came and play was stopped. After about a 45 minute rain delay, Cameron was up next and reached base by an error, followed by a walk to Ben C. to load the bases. Colby was up next and hit a hard grounder to the 1st baseman, who made a great stop to get Colby out, by Devin was able to score. Troy then followed with a single to score Cameron to make the score 9 - 1.
CDO then got back into the game scoring 3 runs in each of the 4th and 5th innings, to make the score 9 -7 at the start of the 6th inning. But, Arrowhead answered in the 6th inning with 3 runs on hits by Cameron, Ben C., Colby, Troy, and Riley Koeplin. Cameron then came in to close the game, allowing 1 run, and ending the game on a great play by Troy and Cameron to get a runner trying to score on a passed ball. Final score was Arrowhead 12, CDO 8.
Overall, an exciting game, and hats off to the boys for playing hard in very wet conditions. Arrowhead's next game is Friday night against Morenci-Clifton.

11 Year Olds Move to 2-0 in State Tournament
On Tuesday night in Nogales, the 11 year old All-Stars moved to 2 - 0 in pool play of the State Tournament by beating the District 6 champions from Scottsdale, McCormick Ranch.
Arrowhead were the visitors and they started off good in the 1st inning. After an out, Devin Ray drew a walk and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Cameron Cannon then hit a ground-rule double to score Devin. Cameron was able to advance to 3rd on a wild pitch, and then scored off a sac fly by Ben Cavaletto.
Pitching for Arrowhead on Tuesday was Riley Koeplin, celebrating his 12th birthday. A couple of McCormick Ranch players were able to get on base with a couple of hits, but Riley was able to get their 5th batter to pop-up to Ben Cavaletto at first base to end the inning.
In the 2nd inning, Riley hit a nice triple, but was unable to score. On the mound that inning, he threw only 7 pitches to get the 3 outs, including 2 nice catches by Ricky Tuita in centerfield.
In the 3rd inning, Arrowhead scored 4 runs to take a 6 - 0 lead. The inning started off with a single by Devin, followed by a 2 run blast by Cameron, his 5th homerun of the post-season. Ben Cavaletto followed with a single, but got out on a fielders choice on the next batter. Troy Turner then followed with a walk and then Riley reached base on an error, loading the bases for Todd Carlson. Todd hits a single over the shortstop's head to score 2 runs.
Riley pitched another great inning in the 3rd, allowing a couple of hits, but only allowing one run to score.
In the top of the 4th, Arrowhead scored a couple more runs off a Devin walk, Ben C. reaching base on an error, and a double by Joe Rankin. At the start of the bottom of the 4th, the score was 8 - 1 in favor of Arrowhead. McCormick Ranch looked to be getting back into the game in the 4th inning when they loaded the bases with only 1 out. But, Taylor Field then made the defensive play of the game at 3rd base. He scooped up a hard hit ball to 3rd, tagged the runner trying to advance from 2nd to 3rd, and then threw to Ben C. at 1st base to get the double-play, ending the inning.
The top of the 5th saw Arrowhead score 5 runs, starting off with a single for Riley who would later score on a fielder's choice by Ricky. Devin Ray then reached base for the 4th time with a single, followed by another ground-rule double for Cameron (that is 2 ground rule doubles and a HR for Cameron in this game). Ben C. followed with a single to score Devin, and Joe Rankin had his 2nd hit of the game to score Cameron and Ben.
In the bottom of the 6th, McCormick Ranch scored a couple of runs on some wild pitches, and had runners on base, trying to extend the game. But, Easton Hunt got a long fly ball in right field to end it with a score of 13 - 3.
Arrowhead next plays on Thursday at 5:30 against District 5 champions, Canyon del Oro.

Arrowhead was the home team as Colby Wyatt took the mound. After striking out the first 2 batters, the 3rd batter hit a double into centerfield, but was not able to advance as the 4th batter popped up to Cameron Cannon at shortstop.
In the bottom of the 1st, Arrowhead started off with an out, but then Devin Ray drew a walk and then advanced to 3rd on a Cameron single. Ben Cavaletto was up next and grounded out to the 2nd baseman, but got an RBI as Devin was able to score. Cameron then scored on a wild pitch, making the score 2 - 0. Arrowhead was able to get a couple more players on base, but were not able to bring them in.
The 2nd inning started off with another strikout for Colby. The next batter got a single, and was able to advance to second on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed the runner to get to 3rd, and on the throw back to got passed Colby, but a heads up play Devin Ray as he scooped up the ball and fired to Troy Turner at home, and tagged out the runner trying to score. On the play, the runner bowled over Troy, but he managed to hold onto the ball. Colby then struck out the next batter to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Riley Koeplin started off the inning reaching 1st base on an error, and advanced to second on a stolen base. Todd Carlson then ripped a double to right center to score Riley. Arrowhead was not able to score anymore that inning, making the score 3 - 0 after 2.
In the third inning, Colby got the 1st two batters out quickly with a pop-up and strikeout, but then Mesa's next 4 batters reached base on 2 hits and 2 walks, scoring 1 run. They only scored 1 because of a great hustle play by Troy on a wild pitch, firing to Colby covering the plate to tag out the Mesa runner trying to score.
The bottom of the 3rd began with Cameron reaching base on an error, and advancing to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitches. Colby then drive him in with a hard grounder that the 2nd baseman could not handle. Arrowhead was not able to score anymore in the inning, as it was 4 - 1 after 3.
The 4th inning saw no runs for either team, as Mesa went 3 up, 3 down. Arrowhead managed to get some players on base, but was not able to get them in to score.
In the top of the fifth, Colby struck out the first 2 batters, and got the 3rd batter to ground out to Ben Cavaletto a first base on his final pitch of the game. For the game, Colby gave up 1 run and 4 hits, with 9 strikeouts.
In the bottom of the 5th, Mesa needed to change their pitcher. Colby began the inning reaching base on an error, and then Troy got a single. Up next was Tanner Scott, who had a great at bat. After fouling off 6 pitches, he blasted a double into the right center gap to score Colby and Troy. Tanner was able to score off a couple wild pitches. Taylor Field then got a single, followed by Easton Hunt reaching base on an error. Ben Anderson was up next and got a double, scoring Taylor. Devin then reached base on an error, which allowed Easton to score. Cameron then got a double to score Ben, making the score 10 - 1. Ben Cavaletto then followed with a grounder to 2nd, and as the 2nd baseman was throwing it to 1st, Devin was scoring and giving Arrowhead the 11 - 1 win.
Overall a great night with great pitching, stellar defense, and timely hitting. Arrowhead's next game is Tuesday night against the District 6 champions, McCormick Ranch.
