Arrowhead Wins 2009 TOPs Tournament!

Arrowhead won the TOPs Tournament Friday night when they faced their toughest opponent - The 4-0 Madison Cougars.  Madison's starting pitcher was a beast, pitching harder than the hardest Arrowhead minor pitchers.  Their starting pitcher struck out 10 of the first 13 batters and gave up no hits!  Tanner Ray was the lone run to score thru the first four innings.  He did it with a walk, two stolen bases and stealing home on a passed ball.  Soon after, the top of the order got up again, this time on a mission: to get on base somehow!  Chase Sowinski (on-base 3 of 3) worked him for 7 pitches and a walk, and Nolan Ruff worked him for nearly 15 pitches and a walk as he got to bat against the Madison pitcher twice due to a runner getting caught stealing while Nolan was at bat.  Once the starting Madison pitcher was pulled, things got back to normal as they tried four more pitchers over the final two innings.  Madison pitchers walked 8 of the final 15 Arrowhead batters and gave up 3 hits starting with Josh Sandoval in the 5th.  Down 7-5 at the top of the 6th, the last two batters each hit RBI singles - Chase Sowinski got the game tying hit, bringing in Chase Orzechowski, and Nolan Ruff's hit brought in Josh Cobb for the game winning run!

Defensively Arrowhead pitched two of their stronger pitchers: Nolan Ruff and Grant Lung who combined to strike out 6 on 8 hits with 4 walks and 7 runs against.  Arrowhead battled in the field as Madison hit the ball hard.  Notable plays were caught fly balls by Kellen Ray (RF), Preston Godfrey (2nd) , and some well fielded grounders by Josh Sandoval, Chase Sowinski  and Spencer Campman
Team stats: 8 runs, 3 hits, 4 rbi.

Arrowhead TOPs Wins Against Deer Valley LL 11-1
The Arrowhead TOPs team played a gem off a game against the Deer Valley TOPs team Tuesday night, winning 11-1.  Some highlights are as follows... Nolan Ruff pitched 4 solid innings (2 hits, 1 run) that featured a 3 pitch 4th inning - that's one pitch to each batter - made possible by solid infield play (5-3 out, 5-3 out,  4-3 out) by Josh Sandoval (3rd), Chase Sowinski (SS), Matt Ryan (2nd) and Spencer Campman (1st).  With one batter on base in the 5th, Josh Sandoval came in to close the game.  He struck out the first batter he faced and got the second batter to hit into a double play (6-4-3, Grant-Preston-Chase O).  This would turn out to be Deer Valley's final at bats.  Additionally, two runners were caught stealing by throws from catcher (Chase Sowinski, Carter Marks) to 2nd (Grant Lung). Offensively, Kellen Ray, Chase Orzechowski & Nolan Ruff had multiple hits in the game and batted 1.000.  Carter Marks, Nolan Ruff, Kellen Ray, and Grant Lung each had multiple base hits.  The game ended when Arrowhead "run-ruled" Deer Valley in the 5th inning (ahead by 10 after 4 innings).
Team Stats: 11 runs, 12 hits, 8 rbi.

Next Game: Wednesday July 8th @ Shaw Butte - 5:30 PM vs. Diamondback LL.
