The Optimist Club of Arlington is the primary sponsor of Arlington Babe Ruth Baseball. Guided by their motto of "Friend of Youth", the Arlington Optimist Club has a 55-year history of contributing to programs benefiting the young people of our county. In additional to Babe Ruth Baseball, the club sponsors the Optimist Soccer Club, with its thirteen teams; the Arlington Optimist Acorns Combined Junior Rifle Club; and the Williamsburg chess club.
In addition to its support for sports, the Optimist Club annually sponsors an essay contest and oratorical contest for high school students; a "Just Say No" poster contest and essay contest for elementary school students; a "Help Them Hear" program for students with hearing impairments; and a tutoring/mentoring program for "at risk" kids. Each year they offer two $4,000 academic scholarships to graduating seniors of Arlington schools as well as two to three "The Force Is With Youth" scholarships to students graduating from Arlington "Alternative Education" schools. Whether is it support for youth sports or academics, or working with the community at large through it participation in the Adopt-A-Park program and sponsorship of "Respect for Law Day", the Optimist Club is an integral part of Arlington.

Arlington Babe Ruth would like to acknowledge Post 139's direct involvement with the youth of Arlington. Not only does Post 139 support our Babe Ruth Baseball program by sponsoring our fall program, it also sponsors several youth baseball teams in the spring, as well as scores of basketball, football, soccer and softball teams. And of course they support their own, very successful, District 17 American Legion Baseball team. All in addition to running a very successful scout troop.
On the academic side, Post 139 sponsors many educational programs including its famous oratorical contests and Boy's State Program. College scholarship help also flows from this community oriented Legion Post by way of the Arlington Community Foundation.
It has been estimated that since its inception, Arlington Post 139 has donated over $2.5 million to projects needed by our county.
Arlington Babe Ruth Baseball salutes Arlington Post 139, The American Legion, for its outstanding service and contributions to our youth.
