In February ABR announced details for supplemental play for all kids. The idea is to provide more play and quality instruction for all age groups and skill levels. We are now accepting registration for our District and Local B team tryouts. If your child is interested in playing on either the District Team or a Local B Team(s), please sign up at  http://www.sportssignup.com/Arlington-Babe-Ruth-Online-Registration.start (same process used for Spring signups – please remember to click on the “Place Order” button at the end to complete your registration). Having your child pre-register is important for ABR to capture all the necessary information needed for planning purposes.

We'll have District teams for 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U age classes (league age is determined by the child's age on April 30th, 2013).  Go to our Travel and Supplemental Program page for complete details.

Saturday Start to Spring Training Postponed by Soggy Fields!

image_name2

The snow fall this week has postponed the start of spring training, and we'll try to get started on Monday, March 11th.  We've been working hard the past couple of months, and especially the past week trying to place over 1,250 players (and counting) on the proper teams.  We are still getting a lot of late registrations, but rest assured we are doing our best to make sure that every player is placed on the correct team.

Practices were to start Saturday, March 9th, with games starting Saturday, April 13th. The league has been busy putting teams together and getting that information out to our coaches. The league has also been requesting practice dates and times from the county. As soon as our coaches have their practice dates, times and locations, they will be busy contacting their team to let them know where and when to be. Parents and players should have that information by Sunday, March 10th.

Remember, if there has been any bad weather, call the Arlington County weather line at 703/228-4715 before heading to practice. Here's hoping for nice weather in the coming weeks, it's time to play ball!

Coaches Clinic Info

ABR provides all of its coaches with a valuable clinic conducted by the Virginia Baseball Club (VBC) and MVP Baseball School to assist them in their unique coaching experiences. Coaches can choose to attend a clinic either at Yorktown High School in Arlington on Sunday, March 3, or at Paul VI High School in Fairfax on Sunday, March 10. The clinics will be run by experienced coaches who are experts in teaching youth baseball and who will provide practical, age-appropriate teaching strategies and effective skill development techniques to coaches at all youth levels, from Blastball through Majors. There will be breakout sessions for each skill level, which will allow for focused and relevant training for each coach. The new VBC Youth Baseball Coach’s Playbook will be provided to each T-ball, Single A, Double A, and Triple A coach who attends the clinic and all coaches will have access to VBC’s online training videos. Following the clinic, all coaches will have an opportunity if they wish to take an on-line certification test and receive a VBC/MVP certificate (either T-Ball through AA or AAA/Majors). The cost of the clinic is covered by ABR and coaches can register online at www.goVBC.com.

We welcome any and all comers to the ABR website, but access to our team pages and rosters is restricted to members only. This is a security measure on our part so parents will feel more secure about having information and pictures of their children posted on the website. Of course, no security measures are foolproof, but we do what we can.

If you are an ABR coach, parent, player or fan, apply for site membership by clicking on the schedules page. The form will ask you some general information questions. Please also indicate your child's name, team, and coach. Your membership request will be forwarded to the webmaster. Once the webmaster has your request, you will be approved if you have provided all the appropriate information. If the webmaster needs more info, you can expect an email asking for additional information. Once you respond with the answers, you will be granted membership. You may also email the ABR webmaster at the time you register with this information (along with the username you chose when you applied for membership) and your application will be approved a little more quickly.

Thank you for visiting the ABR website. We hope you enjoy your stay and appreciate your forbearance with our membership rules.
