  Welcome

Welcome to Arlington Babe Ruth (ABR) baseball, a league for players between the ages 4 - 12. This website was established to keep our players, coaches, volunteers, parents, family and friends of ABR players up to date with the latest league information.

The name of the game at every youth level is FUN and FRIENDS, and especially during the early years of playing. Arlington Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken strives to develop a positive sports culture and an enjoyable baseball experience for each player. Our goal is to provide a safe game and get the players as many at bats, touches, and running opportunities as possible. When the ball is in play the players will have more fun. If they are having fun, they will learn, improve, and stay in baseball.

Arlington Babe Ruth Baseball - A Tradition of Excellence

The name of the game at every youth level is FUN and FRIENDS, and especially during the early years of playing. Arlington Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken strives to develop a positive sports culture and an enjoyable baseball experience for each player. The league has made modifications to early stages of baseball. Our goal is to provide a safe game and get the players as many at bats, touches, and running opportunities as possible. When the ball is in play the players will have more fun. If they are having fun, they will learn, improve, and stay in baseball.

 Neighborhood Teams

Arlington Babe Ruth endorses the neighborhood/school concept in youth sports. Where possible, we strive to group players on teams based on the neighborhood in which they live, or the school that they attend. Most likely your child's friends are on a school team which practices right in your own neighborhood. For this reason, Babe Ruth teams are based on elementary school districts with practices as close to those schools as possible.

We use this principle at every level except our top level, Majors National League (our intermediate size field league, 50/70) for 11 and 12 year olds. This league uses a modified draft to create a more competitive playing experience for all.

ABR is Committed to Coach Training

ABR is committed to providing each player with an enjoyable and valuable baseball experience. We provide each coach in the league with coach training clinics and coaching manuals. Each coach receives training in:

Safety Requirements
Coach Skills to Improve Players' Skills
Practice Organization
"Playing Like A Champion" - Strategies for Making Set Backs Temporary
Game Management
Physical, Social, and Behavior Characteristics of Middle Childhood
Goals for Achievement for Each Level
Age-appropriate, Game-Like Drills for Skill Development

 ABR Levels of Play

Which level is right for my player? Parents should register their child in their age group (your child's age on April 30, 2012). Parents may choose to sign up for one age up only. For example: a 7 year old may play at the 8-9 year old level, but a 6 year old may not play at the 8-9 year old level. A 10-year old who is a beginner may play at the 8 – 9 level. Click here for more information on our levels of play.

ABR has developed several age-appropriate levels of play. These levels correspond with the general physical, mental, and social characteristics of middle childhood. Emphasis is placed on creating a safe setting, creating a positive sports culture, and keeping the games moving. And except for Majors National League, players are placed on teams from neighborhood schools.

Lost and Found

image_name2
We are renewing our Lost and Found Message Board this year. If you have lost or found an item at a recent game or practice, you can post that news to our message board. Just click on the lost and found graphic or click here to go the Lost and Found posts. You can also click on the "Message Boards" link in the left hand menu of every ABR page to get there.

Here's hoping that lots of misplaced articles find their way home!

Membership Required!

image_name2
We welcome any and all comers to the ABR website, but access to our team pages and rosters is restricted to members only. This is a security measure on our part so parents will feel more secure about having information and pictures of their children posted on the website. Of course, no security measures are foolproof, but we do what we can.

If you are an ABR coach, parent, player or fan, you may fill out our membership registration form that will ask you some general information questions. Please also indicate your child's name, team, and coach. Your membership request will be forwarded to the webmaster. Once the webmaster has your request, you will be approved if you have provided all the appropriate information. If the webmaster needs more info, you can expect an email asking for additional information. Once you respond with the answers, you will be granted membership. You may also email the ABR webmaster at the time you register with this information (along with the username you choose when you applied for membership) and your application will be approved a little more quickly.

Thank you for visiting the ABR website. We hope you enjoy your stay and appreciate your forbearance with our membership rules.
