A Fond Farewell
From Coach Toth
Throughout the years of my coaching the Apex American Legion baseball team, I have used this website to promote our players and to convey many of my "pearls of of wisdom". And so once again I will use this venue, this time as a method to send a proper fond farewell.
To Mike, one of the best things I have ever done in this great state was to step forward into that dugout at Athens Drive High School and introduce myself to you. I have seen you grow as a coach and as a person over the years that can only be justifiably rewarded with a head coaching job at the high school level or above. I firmly believe that if this does not happen as we have both dreamed it will soon, there is no doubt that this will happen in the near future. Stick to your guns and always be quick to reload. You are a great coach and a wonderful best friend to many.
To the players past and present, thank you for rekindling the enthusiasm for life that I had lost after my bout with the "big C" 9 years ago. Now at age 40, after 5 surgery's to either my elbows, shoulder, or knee so I can throw a baseball without pain, I feel very fortunate to have had all of you in my life to help keep me strong. I have no better spiritual feeling then when I step onto a baseball field each spring for the first practice of the new year. I can only think of one step I could take that could feel any sweeter and that would be to step into the Apex Post 124 American Legion baseball team's dugout this August at the American Legion North Carolina State Tournament. Hopefully you all will have the baseball gods on your side and give an old man another moment of pride and joy. No matter how things turn out this summer, I will always be grateful for respect you have given me. Play hard, never give up, and always keep your heads held high.
I'd also like to give a special thanks to Brian for the baseball tatoo on my left quad/hip....ouch, that hurt! :>O
