Itwas a beautiful Saturday morning and excitement filled the air as the Eaglestook the field at Newbury Park for the first round of playoffs. Game captains Jack Alexander, CameronJasmine, Maxx Lux and Chaz Meissner led the team as theytook the field and kicked off to start the game. The ball was recovered by the Steelers at the 46 yd line. After a series ofshort gains, the Steelers had the ball at the Eagle 5 yd line when quarterback(#1) kept the ball and scored the first points of the game. Running back (#24) added the 2 pt conversion. TheEagles got the ball at the 48 yd line after a 12 yd return by Meissner. Two plays later, Meissner rambled 45 yds to score a touchdown and then addedthe 2 pt conversion on a sweep to the outside, aided by a nice "crackback" block by Nick Seyler, making the score 8-8. Alexander kickedoff and the ball went to Big Boy (#36) who waspromptly gang tackled by most of the Eagle team, with Gavin Green and MichaelParisi riding him like a horse until he surrendered. The second qtr. included a lot of bigplays by Dana Levy's defense. The Steelers were driving down the fieldwhen Seyler and Jasmine knocked the ball loose, but it was recovered by Newbury Park. Then on a 4th and goal, theSteelers attempted a reverse but they were caught short of the first downmarker by a huge tackle by Meissner to get the ball back. A series of gainsby Meissner and Hunter "Johnny on the Spot" Williams got the Eaglessome breathing room and another "crackback" by Nick “the Sniper”Seyler sprung Meissner for a 49 yd touchdown. The 2 pt conversion was nogood, making the score 14-8 Eagles. Newbury Park got the ball with 3:36remaining in the half and attempted a pitch/pass on 3rd and 12 that was brokenup by Seyler, and then Jasmine pummeled the Big Boy on 4th down to get theball back. With the ball at the 50 yd line and 1:32 to go, theEagles Offensive Coordinator Tony Rodriguezturned to Meissner. He deliveredwith a 45 yard romp taking the ball to the 5 yd line. He then ran acounter and scored from 5 yds out. The 2 pt conversion was good with apass play from Quarterback Luke Watson to the"Sniper" who drifted past the defense for the completion. Score- Eagles 22, Steelers 8. The next 1:13 took forever (home team clock management) and the Steelers took advantage byscoring with a few seconds left after a 55 yd touchdown run by (#22). The 2 pt conversion was good. Half time score 22-16. We got us agame!
Offense wins games, but defense wins championships! The Eagle defense has been stellar all year and we wouldrely on them to close this game out. The defense held the Steelers out ofthe end zone the rest of the game. The opening kickoff was handled byGarrett Levesque and he picked up a couple of yards. Meissner handled the ballthe next 4 plays and we gave the ball back to Newbury Park at the 26 yd linegoing in. Cornerback, Nick "theSniper" Seyler sliced through his blocker and ripped the ball from theSteeler ball-carrier causing a fumble that was picked up by Garret Juels. A couple of runs by Meissner, Williams, and Seyler brought up a critical 4thand 5. The Eagle shot caller Luke Watsonbarked out a hard count and the Steelers jumped off side to give the Eagles amuch needed first down to end the 3rd quarter. Eagles had the ball at the Steeler 40 yd line and a heavydose of Chaz "You Can't Stop Me" Meissner kept the clockrunning. He was able to pickup a couple of first downs, none of which could have been possible withoutgreat blocking from the boys on the front line. Way to open the holesAiden Rodriguez, Juels, Jack Alexander, Big Ben Lee, Michael Paris andJasmine. He also got help on the edges from DJ Elhadidy, Akash Juwadi,Gavin Green, Josh Olson, and Menacing Maxx Lux. We had another long 4thand 13 when Watson barked out another hard count and the Steelers jumped offside again. Way to hold your position, offense! On 4th and 8, Meissner got 6 yards but came up short of thefirst down and Eagles turned the ball over on downs. On 4th down and 5,with 48 seconds remaining, Newbury Park tried to sweep around the edge but"Johnny on the Spot" i.e, Hunter Williams made the tackle to ensurethe victory. Final Score – Eagles22, Newbury Park 16!
It's on to the second round where the Eagles will take on Burbank, the #3seed. Meissner finished the day with 210 all-purpose yards, a trulyamazing feat. Meissner and Jasmine led the Eagle defense with 10 tackles apiece; Williams (8); Seyler (6); Alexander (5);Juels (4); Lee (4); Levesque(3); Watson (2); Rodriguez (2); and a host of others with one. This is a scrappy team full of heartand determination. We’re proud ofyou boys – GO EAGLES!

Moorpark's kicker "muffed" the kickoff and the ball went to theEagles at the Saint 40 yd line. Three plays into the game Running Back Chaz Meissnerrambled 40 yds for the first touchdown of the game. The first quarter ended with a long gain (22 yds) by Meissnerthat had an excellent downfield block by "Johnny on the spot" HunterWilliams...he sure has a nose for the ball. A series of rushes byWilliams, Jasmin and Lee set up Meissner with a 2 yd touchdown run. The 2 pt conversion, a pass attempt toNick Seyler, deflected off his fingertips making the score 14-0. The nextkickoff by Alexander went to the Saints and the runner was quickly swarmed-onby Meissner and Williams, with a spearing penalty adding to the short gain.Moorpark had a 3rd and 5 when Alexander and Parisi tackled the ball carrier fora loss, but a face mask penalty gave them a first down on the Eagle 46 ydline. The Saints tried to sweep wide left on the next play, butcornerback Seyler strung it out and eventually made the tackle for a 3 ydloss. Williams busted through the defensefor a 10 yd touchdown run, but the 2 pt conversion was no good. An incomplete pass with a loss of 2, was followed by aMeissner 9 yd run to set up a critical 4th and 1. Once again, Meissnerpicked up 6 more yds for the first down and kept the clock running. Moorpark took the Alexander kick-off 25 yds before beingtackled by Jack (he kicks it and then makes the tackle -- no other playersneeded!). The next and final play of the third quarter went for a Sainttouchdown and the 2 pt conversion was good, making the score 26-8. The fourthquarter was fun to watch as Jasmine and Lee pushed the entire offensive linebackwards to stop their threat. Quarterback Watson completed 2 passes inthe 4th (8 yds to Meissner) and (18 yds to Rodriguez). A fumble gave theball back to Moorpark, but on the next running play, D.J. Elhadidy chipped therunner, causing him to fumble. Theball was recovered by Watson. At this point the Eagles featured some newrunning backs. Ben Leepicked up 11 yards on the ground and 28 yards passing. Quarterback Niki Matheisen picked up 3 yards on the groundto complete the Eagle offensive output.

Therewere 3 big plays that helped insure a victory. Garrett Levesque made several big tackles - one for a loss of 5 and another for aloss of 6. But the really big playcame when Garrett chased a Newbury runner down to the 6 yard line making atouchdown saving tackle - the Newbury offense couldn't punch it in! Another big play came in the 3rd quarter when Newbury Park had a 4th and 15 andcame up 1 yard short when Safety Nick Seyler tackled the runner to deny thefirst down and get the ball back to the Eagles.
