Season Updates - May 2012

Hi Everyone,

Some important information I would like to share:

Memorial Day Weekend – The 2pm game has been rescheduled to 9am and the 3pm game has been moved to 10am. If your team is playing at one of these times, your coach will be speaking to you about this change.

Memorial Day Parade – We are looking for players to march in the parade. Parents are welcome to walk along side if they wish; coaches will be asking teams if they are interested in marching. We will have some candy to give out, refreshments, and an Ansonia Soccer banner to proudly tote.

Bake Sale – Our U12 (12 and under) Girls travel team will be holding a bake sale at Abe Stone Park (Colony) on 5/27 from 9am to 1pm. All proceeds benefit the soccer club and I can’t thank them enough for putting in the effort. Please stop by their setup at the field and show your support.

June 10th – Last day of the season for in-town Rec divisions! We will have trophies to present to the players and ice cream at the field after each game. Rain date for this will be June 17th, so please plan accordingly. Travel teams will have individual celebrations as their seasons wrap up – your coaches should have information on that in the coming weeks.

Next season – Online registration for returning players is now open on our website. Those returning players who wish to register in person will have the opportunity on June 4th and June 7th at the Armory. Flyers will circulate through the schools soon. New players have to register in person, so spread the word about the dates.

Subscribe to our website and get these updates in your Facebook news feed! Go to our website and click the Like button in the top right corner to subscribe.

If you ordered something from the last fundraiser, those orders were placed and should be ready toward the end of next week.

Thanks everyone, and as always feel free to email any questions

Spring 2012 Season Update
Spring Game Schedule can be downloaded here: Spring 2012 REC Schedule ASC

Hello Everyone! With the season in full swing, I wanted you send out a quick update.
  • Fundraisers!!! Money raised is used for trophies, and any other end of season activities (ice cream, pizza, etc.) – so we sincerely need your help. There are a couple ways you can contribute. First is by making a purchase of Ansonia Soccer merchandise. Order form can be downloaded here. We are selling t-shirts, hoodies, and stickers for your car. If you do not wish to purchase anything, please consider making a $5 donation. You can donate $5 by check and hand it in to your coach and write Soccer Donation in the memo section. Orders and donations are due back to your coach by April 29th.
Please spread the word about this fundraiser, as email does not always reach everyone.
  • Picture Day – Thanks to all who participated!
  • Weather Cancellations – Please always check our website to see if games are cancelled due to rain. Travel players should contact their coach directly.
  • Like Ansonia Soccer? Have ideas for improvements? We need help. The Ansonia Soccer Board of Directors has a few openings, please email me if interested. If anyone out there has an accounting background, we are in need of a treasurer. At Ansonia Soccer, we pride ourselves on being a very organized and efficient sporting organization. Right now, only two people run this entire program!! Besides a treasurer, we could use an equipment manager and a Rec division coordinator.
  • Make-up games – If there is a rain out this season, we will either make these games up either on May 13th or June 17th. Coaches will be taking a poll as to which day is preferred. Travel players should check with their coach.

Start of Spring 2012 Season

Registration for Spring 2012 is now closed.

Spring Game Schedule can be downloaded here: Spring 2012 REC Schedule ASC

Hello Players and Parents, Here are some updates to keep you informed of how the Spring 2012 season is progressing.

PLAYER ASSIGNMENTS

I frequently get asked if players can be assigned to specific teams. I want to make it clear that it is the policy of the Ansonia Soccer Club that we do not accept special requests to assign players to specific teams or to specific coaches. The obvious exceptions are players whose parents are actively coaching for the particular season in question. Otherwise, players are assigned to teams based on an even distribution of sex and age. This is intended specifically so that all teams have a roughly equal distribution of skill and experience. Please refrain from asking for special favors as this is impossible to accommodate for a group of over 250 players. All players have been assigned to their team for the fall season. You should be contacted by your coach by March 19th and introduced to him/her. Keep in mind that we used the contact phone numbers that were provided to us at registration so if something is different your coach will have difficulty getting in touch with you. If you have not been contacted by your coach by March 19th, then you may email me back with your contact phone number(s) so that I can check them against what we have on record for you.

PRACTICES

Practices should begin the last week of August. All teams have been assigned their practice time slots and are subject to coach and field availability. Please speak to your coach if you have questions about your team’s practice days or times.

UNIFORMS

Uniforms will be distributed to coaches grouped by team and they will not be sorted in individual player bags as in the past. Because of this, coaches might be asking a couple parents at practice to sort the uniforms for their team while the team practices.

EQUIPMENT

All players require shin guards, cleats, and a soccer ball: Ages 4 and 5 – size 3 soccer ball Ages 6 through 12 – size 4 soccer ball Ages 13 and 14 – size 5 soccer ball As always, players and parents are encouraged to check our website for up to date information, news and handouts. Soon you can find game schedules there ready for you to download and print. Also, during the season, the website will provide game cancellation information on game days where the weather is questionable.

Thank you!

Spring 2011 REC Game Schedule now posted and can be downloaded here.

It is going to be a great season - we had over 260 players register!

Well the snow is gone – and just in time! We are just about ready to go with the Spring 2011 Ansonia Soccer Season. A couple things before we start:

  • Coaches will be calling players throughout this week, if you have not heard from your coach already.
  • Code of Conduct
    • Ansonia Soccer does have a code of conduct and we ask that all involved please follow it.

 ASC CODE OF CONDUCT

  • I will do my part to stay in contact with the coach to keep apprised of changes to the practice and game schedules.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, game officials, administrators, and spectators at all times.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of all players ahead of any personal desire to win and I will remember that the game is for the benefit and enjoyment of the players.
  • I will always allow the coach to be the only coach.
  • I will not criticize or engage in confrontations with players, parents, coaches or game officials.
  • I will not enter the field for any reason during the game.
  • I understand that alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs and unauthorized prescription drugs shall not be possessed, consumed or distributed at any time at any soccer location.
  • I understand that smoking is not allowed at any ASC event.
  • I understand that when I agree to volunteer, I make a commitment to the ASC and I will fulfill my obligations

  • Fundraisers – We currently have a fundraiser going on; please help out if you can. We will also be selling t-shirts, Hoodies, Magnets and Stickers later this season. You can get details for the current fundraiser by clicking the Donate Now link on our website.
  • Should you be unsure if a game is cancelled due to weather, please check our website, or check with your coach.
  • Picture Day – We will have player pictures again by Sportography on May 15th. More details to come on that in the coming weeks.
  • We have a large group of players this season, so please be careful. Fields will be crowded on game days; be sure to drive slow and watch for players and spectators walking in parking lots.
  • Let the kids have fun and enjoy being outside.
