ANSLL American Majors take Fairfax, in "Grand" style
Facing elimination, the ANSLL American team posted their 5th straight
victory on Tuesday at Pine Ridge, defeating a powerful Fairfax National
squad, 15-3 breaking open a tight game late.
Pitcher Ryan Rossum held Fairfax in check early, getting out of a 2nd inning
bases loaded jam to keep it scoreless. In the home half of the second
ANSLL got on the board first. Ryan Krogel started it off with a single and
2 outs later, Tyler Choate also singled. With 2 out, Jacob Eisner laid down
a perfect bunt and just beat the catcher's throw to first. Krogel scored
from 2nd on the play and ANSLL led 1-0. CF Jackson Boehman doubled to score
2 and ANSLL led 3-0 after two frames.
Fairfax put one on the board in the 3rd, but an ESPN TOP 10 play from 2b
Eisner and a nice grab of a pop foul at the fence by Catcher Choate got
ANSLL out of the inning still leading 3-1.
In the home half of the 3rd, a couple of walks loaded the bases with 2 outs.
Tyler Choate lined a clutch single to right center scoring two and opening
the lead to 5-1. Eisner singled, Boehman was hit by a pitch, Christian
Firaben singled, and Kerry Reed closed the scoring with another hit and
ANSLL had posted 7 runs, all with 2 out, to up the lead to 10-1 half way
home.
Fairfax added one in the 4th and one in the 5th, and ANSLL headed to the
bottom of 5th still leading 10-3, and hoping for 3 runs to save pitchers and
advance via the 10-run rule. Boehman, Grant Thompson and Reed all smacked
hits and after Ryan Rossum walked to load em up..Ryan Krogel stepped to the
plate and launched a grand slam to center field to make it 15-3 and end the
game in "grand fashion".
The ANSLL bats were hot, knocking out 15 hits (in 27 at bats), while Ryan
Rossum tossed another gem: a complete game, 7 hits and 2 walks, keeping the
powerful Fairfax lineup off balance most of the night. The defense was
solid again, with a nice catch by Kyle Goettlicher in right, and 2 highlight
reel plays by Eisner at second.
ANSLL is now in the "final 3" in the District 10 tournament. ANSLL Americans next
plays AT Chantilly American on Thursday and the winner gets the task of
trying to defeat perennial power SYA East twice (Sat/Sun)!
