ANSLL American Majors celebrate the 4th of July with a win at Gainesville

Solid pitching and defense was the formula for ANSLL to post a 6-1 win at Gainesville.

ANSLL jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first without the help
of a basehit.  After an error and a fielder's choice put runners on 1st and
3rd with 2 out, Ryan Rossum streaked for second on a pitch in the dirt, just
beating the throw, while Jackson Boehman hustled home on the throw.

Gainesville quickly tied it at 1-1 with a 2 out double.

In the 2nd, ANSLL made some heads up plays to take the lead.   Ryan Kane
worked a leadoff walk and with 1 out Kyle Goetlicher was hit by a pitch.
Jacob Eisner smacked a single to center to score Kane and give ANSLL the
lead back.  Grant Thompson followed with another single up the middle to
make it 3-1.  With 2 out, Kerry Reed hit one down the right field line to
score 2 more and make it 5-1 ANSLL.

Bottom 2nd it looked as though Gainesville would get right back in it, as
they loaded the bases with nobody out, before Rossum settled down and struck
out 3 hitters in a row to keep it at 5-1.

ANSLL snuck in another run in the 3rd as Kyle Goethlicher smacked a double
to the gap scoring Andrew Santaniello.  The bats were quiet from there, with
Rossum's 2 out double in the 4th the only other hit ANSLL could get.

Rossum stayed poised and got ANSLL out of trouble nearly each inning, as
Gainesville stranded 7 runners over his 4 innings, including 5 in scoring
position, with 7 K's.  After a leadoff hit to start the bottom of the 5th,
Aaron Boyd came on in relief for ANSLL and shut the door by retiring 6 of
the 7 batters he faced with 2 strikeouts.

Gainesville seemed to threaten almost every inning, but ANSLL played a solid
game on defense, with 0 errors, 0 wild pitches/passed balls, 0 stolen bases
and yielded only 3 walks.  Good defensive plays were made by 2bman Jacob
Eisner, 3b Grant Thompson and OF Kyle Goetlicher while Tyler Choate had
another solid game behind the plate.  Pitching and defense kept Gainesville
off the board all day, and ANSLL moved on with a 6-1 win.

Next game is Tuesday, 7pm vs Fairfax Dominion at Chilcotte field in Fairfax.
