ANSLL 9-10 Americans take Faifax American's to final strike

The ANSLL 9-10 Americans had their hands full with the Fairfax Americans from the start.  Colin Corey took the mound and sent the Fairfax Americans down yeilding only a walk.  ANSLL came to bat and Ryan Peich put the first pitch in play to reach first.  Colin nailed a double to the gap and scored Ryan.  Steven Adams then grounded to short as Colin scored on the throw to first.  Jorge Torres followed with another double to the gap but Chris Santaniello was unable to bring in Jorge on a shot that was caught in left. ANSLL up 2-0 after 1.

Colin had his hands full in the 2nd with one run already in, bases loaded and one out ......but he was all business and recorded a strikeout and a grounder to Jake Williams who fliped to Jorge at third ended the threat with ANSLL leading 2-1.

Garrett Laraia led off the second with the first of his 3 hits.  Zack Carmichael reached first after "taking one for the team" and ANSLL had 2 runners in scoring position when Jake Williams ripped a liner to the gap in right but an outstanding play by Fairfax kept it a 2-1 game.

Colin shut Fairfax down in the 3rd and ANSLL was able to generate a run after Colin drew a walk, then Steven Adams reached on a fielders choice , moved to second on a passed ball and as Garrett Canterbury batted Steven pulled a well timed steal that caught Fairfax off-guard and in their haste allowed the ball to get away and Steven bolted home to make it 3-1 ANSLL.

Garrett Laraia streched a single into a double to lead off the fourth on a nice hook slide but ANSLL could not bring him around as the Fairfax outfield made a running snag on Jake Wartel's liner.

Colin was relieved by Jake Williams in the 5th and Fairfax was able to generate a couple runs to tie it up.  ANSLL answered in their half of the 5th and on a triple by Colin then scoring on a passed ball to put ANSLL back in the lead 4-3.

Jake was able to retire the first batter, the second reached on a blooper that tipped off Colin's glove and was almost corralled by Jake Wartel in left as he almost kept it from hitting the grass.  Ryan Peich fielded a grounder at second and got the lead runner to leave Fairfax with their final out.  Jake then got 2 strikes and Fairfax was down to their final strike......

Fairfax would not go easy, Fairfax fouled off pitch after pitch, 4 consecutive foul tips kept them alive and then a blooper that Jake charged and threw to first but a bang bang play was a half step late and gave Fairfax new life with runners on 1st and 2nd.  A screaming liner to center was stopped by Chris Santaniello but that allowed a runner to score and tie it up.  Fairfax then crushed a deep fly to center where Chris made a tremendous effort to even get back on the ball only to have it tip off his glove and 2 runners touched home.  Jake was able to get the next batter to ground out to Jorge at 3b and ANSLL was unable to take advantage of Garrett's third hit and left him stranded as ANSLL fell one strike short of holding off a strong Fairfax team, falling 6-4.

The ANSLL 9/10 Americans travel to Gainsville on Saturday.
