News: 11-12 Americans saved some fireworks

Saturday, July 5
11-12 Americans saved some fireworks

ANSLL traveled to Gainsville Saturday and were held scoreless through two innings but the bats woke up in the third.  Joe Darcy led off with a single Doug Gressly reached on a fielders choice and Jack Owens followed with a single.  Starting pitcher Tyler Pacak hit a 2 RBI single and Kyle Peich ran for Tyler but got tagged out on a passed ball to Nolan Gilbert who eventually reached on a walk.  Luke Lundy blasted a ground rule double to bring in Nolan and Luke made it home on a Steven Schrade grounder that the shortstop booted to make it 4-0.  Tyler kept Gainsville off the board in the third but Gainsville who mixed in a game of "small ball" was able to mix the bunts with big hits in the fourth with a bunt then homer to cut the lead in half.  4-2 after four.

ANSLL went quietly in the 5th as Gainsville again mixed a bunt and a single with a homer to put them ahead 5-4 but a running diving catch with two on by Steven Schwartz ended the threat.

Sean Workman worked a full count into a base on balls and Nick Santos ran for Sean.  Alex Gebler laid down a textbook bunt to advance Nick and Joe followed with a single and stolen base to get the tying and go-ahead run into scoring position.  Doug drew a walk to load the bases and Jack hit a single to score Nick and Joe and put ANSLL up 6-5 with Tyler batting.  Tyler parked a homer over the fence to cap the ANSLL rally and leave ANSLL ahead 9-5.  The bottom Gainsville continued to bunt and got a runner on and then score on a double.  Steven Schwartz came in to close it out and retired 3 batters to end the threat and keep ANSLL's run alive with a 9-7 victory.

ANSLL Americans will face Chantilly Nationals in Chantilly on Monday at 6pm.
