The AL 10-11 squad opened the tournament at home vs a tough SYA West team. After spotting them 3 runs in the top of the first, ANSLL came right back strong in bottom half. After a leadoff single by Captain Jacob Eisner, Jackson Boehman rocketed a double off the fence in right center. Ryan Rossum knocked in two with a single and after Chris Calbi and Christian Firaben worked walks, Andrew Santaniello's base hit knocked in a couple more and staked ANSLL to a 4-3 lead after one.
After that, the pitching took over. Starting Pitcher Ryan Rossum pitched well for ANSLL and the score was 4-4 in top of 4th until the SYA cleanup hitter knocked a 2 out 2-run homer to put SYA up 6-4. SYA rallied again in the 5th, and it looked bleak for ANSLL. Chris Calbi came on to pitch with bases loaded and 1 out, and nearly got out of it. After a groudball out at home, another SYA hit made the score 9-4 with 2nd and 3rd and 2 out, and up came the SYA clean up hitter - again with the game almost out of grasp. However, CF Jackson Boehman snuck in behind the runner at 2b and Calbi picked him off 2nd to end the rally.
After that, the ANSLL bats came alive again, scoring 3 in the bottom half of the 5th on hits by catcher Tyler Choate and Calbi, sandwiched around walks to Ryan Kane, Nic Gold, and Eisner.
But, darkness and the SYA closer quieted the ANSLL bats in the 6th and SYA came away with a 9-7 victory.
The ANSLL defense played an error free game, led by SS Calbi showing some great range up the middle. The outfield made all the plays, let by Santaniello, Boehman, Gold and Ryan Krogel.
