The game started out to be a pitchers duel, with both hurlers holding the opposition to one hit in the first inning, Matt Collins had an infield single for ANSLL, and Nate Contrino flashed the leather in left field to assist Colin Corey in retiring the SYA batters. The second inning proved to be more of the same, as only Jack Gutermuth reached base in the ANSLL half with a single. In the bottom of the second the # 5 hitter for SYA roped a double off of ANSLL starter Colin Corey, and later scored to make it 1-0 in favor of SYA Central.
The 9/10 American's continued to struggle against the hard throwing pitcher from SYA going down one two three in the bottom of the third. Colin Corey continued to throw well in the bottom of the inning striking out two and Aaron Boyd chipped in with a diving catch of a foul ball behind the plate.
The ANSLL bats finally got cracking in the fourth when Aaron Boyd reached base on an error. After Aaron took second on a passed ball, Jack Gutermuth singled him home to tie the game at 1-1. Ryan Peich layed down a text book bunt that followed the chalk up the third baseline to put runners on 1st and second. Zach Carmichael outlasted the SYA pitcher and drew a walk after a seven pitch battle to load the bases. After Chris Santaniello lined out to third, leadoff hitter Grant Thompson drew a walk and ANSLL gave it's first lead of the game. With the bases loaded Colin Corey drilled an 0-1 pitch over the left fielder's head for a clutch three run double. Matt Collins worked the count for a walk, and the SYA coach made a call to the bullpen. The SYA Central releiver finally ended the ANSLL rally with the score at 5-1.
SYA battled back in the bottom of the inning scoring one run before loading the bases, but the threat was ended when centerfielder Tim Johnson caught a two out line drive to end the inning. The ANSLL batters were quieted in the fifth, as the reliever from SYA retired them on eight pitches. Colin Corey and the ANSLL defense answered the bell in the bottom of the fifth taking SYA down three in a row with some nice plays by Jack, Grant and Matt.
ANSLL went into the top of the sixth holding on to a 5-2 lead. Patrick Fruchterman lead off with a walk, and Grant Thompson followed with his second free pass of the game. Colin Corey grounded to short, but the toss to second was too late with the speedy Grant Thompson beating the ball. With bases loaded, Matt Collins picked up an RBI the hard way, taking a inside pitch off the top of the head. Tim Johnson drilled a single to left scoring two more, and Nick Roberts capped it off with another single to bring the score to 10-2.
Colin Corey closed it out in the bottom of the sixth using only seven pitches to record the final three outs. Colin finished with a 72 pitch complete game, giving up only six hits while striking out nine and allowing no walks.
The 9/10 American advanced to the final six and will take on Lower Louden on Saturday at 2pm at Pine Ridge.
