Baseball in theory is an easy game, you throw the ball, you hit the ball and you catch the ball. That is a lot easier said than done when the ball is being fired from Tyler Pacak so the hitting becomes harder and then catching is a key factor. Luke Lundy was solid behind the plate smothering everything Tyler threw and that gave Tyler the confidence to pick corners and drop pitches in the dirt knowing Luke would be the wall. Tyler kept Lower Loudoun off balance but the top of the second had LL lead off with a sure double to the fence but a rocket throw by Nolan Gilbert to Jack Owens nailed the runner at second.
The "Luke wall" proved to be a huge factor in ANSLL's victory over Lower Loudoun as ANSLL was able to score 4 runs on passed balls, 3 of them came in the second inning when Steven Schwartz, Steven Schrade and Nick Santos all scored on passed balls. Joe Darcy kept things going with a walk and then Doug Gressly hit a double to the gap but Joe got tagged out at home on a nice defensive relay and throw by Lower Loudoun to end the inning.
The third had Tyler rip a liner to the fence for a double. Kyle Peich pinch ran for Tyler and advanced to third on a passed ball and scored as the throw got away. Alex Gebler then ripped a liner to the gap that scored Luke to make it 5-0. The fourth was led off by Sean Workman knocking a single back up the box and Joe Darcy doubling to left but ANSLL was unable to score a run. Tyler held LL scorless thru 5 and Steven Schwartz came in to close it out. LL was able to score 2 runs as ANSLL committed a few errors but then Steven took charge and struck out the lead-off and #2 batter to end the game.
Final was 6-2 and ANSLL will play at Pine Ridge vs Fairfax American on Thursday at 6:00
