ANSLL 11/12 Nationals run ends in Lower Loudoun
The ANSLL 11/12 National team traveled to the beautiful complex at Lower
Loudoun in search of their 4th consecutive victory.
ANSLL played hard, but it's normally reliable defense made several errors,
contributing to a 8-2 loss.
In the top half of the first, Joe Cassell's line drive single provided some
life, but Joe was stranded at first. Ryan Keck then shut down Lower Loudoun
American in order on two plays by second baseman Patrick McCann and a
strikeout. In the top of the second, ANSLL's bats came to life, as Jake
Glasscock, Caleb O'Neil and Carl Cilke all had well struck hits, scoring
ANSLL's two runs, and providing a 2-0 lead. Lower Loudoun was able to score
a run in their half of the second and a run in the third to tie the game at
2-2.
ANSLL was retired in order in the 4th, and in the bottom of the inning Lower
Loudoun was able to push across 6 runs on only 2 hits, as the defense
faltered a bit. Jack Glasscock came into pitch with one out and the bases
loaded, and pitched well, but by the time the inning ended, the score was
8-2.
In the 5th, David Paik was able to reach on catcher's interference, but
solid pitching and good defense ended the threat. Jake Glasscock pitched a
1-2-3 5th, giving ANSLL hope for a big late inning comeback. A walk by Joe
Carns provided ANSLL with a base runner, but once again, ANSLL was retired
without any damage. Joe Cassell played a magnificent defensive game at
shortstop, but a beautiful performance by the Lower Loudoun was too much to
overcome, and the ANSLL 11/12 Nationals team marvelous run through the
tournament was brought to an end.
The ANSLL players represented the league with great class, and worked hard
throughout the weeks they were together. All 12 of the all-stars (Shaun
Torres, Carl Cilke, David Paik, Paul Leonard, Caleb O'Neil, Diego Olivieri,
Patrick McCann, Jake Glasscock, Joe Carns, Joe Cassell, Ryan Keck and Joey
Coogan), provided full effort, showed a great attitude and a passion for the
game of baseball, and it was a pleasure for the coaching staff to have the
opportunity to work with each of them. They were able to provide us with
memories many of us will never forget.
