ANSLL 9-10 Americans and Nationals face each other at Pine Ridge
The Annandale American and National 9-10 year olds met at Pine Ridge Friday night. It was a great night for baseball and the stands were packed. The ANSLL 11-12 teams both came out and showed their support along with many just coming out to catch the game.
The Americans took the field with Tyler Pacak on the hill. Tyler was able to get 3 ground balls and record 3 outs in the top of the first. Not be be outdone Sean Workman took the hill for the Nationals and recorded 3 K's to retire the Americans. Mike Szabo led off the second for the Nationals with a single to center but was unable to advance with Tyler downing the next three batters.
The Americans were able to get base runners with a few walks then Steven Schwartz worked the count for another walk and the Americans had their first run. A single by Noah Smith scored 2 and a pair of walks left the Americans ahead 7-0 after 2.
The Nationals fought back with a pair of runs in the third on RBI singles by Henry Truelove and Alex Lewis that scored Nick Mathis and Andrew Santanello. Michael Szabo took the mound in the third and kept the Americans off the board. Alex Paik led off the 4th with a double to center and a 2 out single by Alex Gebler plated Noah Wolfenstein and Kevin Ayling to bring the score to 7-5.
The Americans came to bat in their half of the 4th and started with singles by Luke Lundy and Evan Eschenburg. Tyler Pacak followed with a RBI sacrifice fly and three walks generated another run. Jack Owens scored 2 on a double, Nolan Gilbert followed with a triple, then a double by Joe Darcy scored another. The Americans ended the inning ahead 14-5.
Tyler Pacak kept command on the mound for the Americans despite the Nationals battling in the fifth with a single by Alex Paik and a RBI double by Noah Wolfenstein, who was then brought around on a single by David Mathis. That was all the Nationals would get in the fifth when Tyler was able to get out of the inning with 2 ground ball outs to end the rally.
The Americans finished it off in the fifth when Steven Schwartz and Noah Smith got infield singles and a deep sac fly by Jack Owens scored 2 then Joe Darcy put the Americans up by 10 with a RBI single.
The game was called due to the 10 run rule and the Americans had eliminated the Nationals 17-7. Tyler went the distance on 7 hits, 4 K's and 3 walks. The Nationals were unable to overcome 12 base on balls and ended with a respectable tournament record of 1-2.
The Americans (2-1) will move on to play Fairfax Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
