President's Message

Dear Annadel Members:

Wow! 2008 already.

2007, was a very successful year. This can be attributed to our excellent players, Coaches, referees and BOD members. Everyone did his or her part.

Our membership was up five percent, we had a record number of games with assigned referees and there were no red cards assessed in our youth ranks.

Soccer is the perfect youth activity.

Soccer is for everyone. Everyone plays regardless of his or her level of skill or ability, novice to competitive. We are in transition, with many new families mixed in with the veterans of Annadel. Our club needs new leaders and I am encouraging all to get involved. There are many reasons to get involved. The kids activity and growth primarily, and the entire family can participate.

As a person who loves the outdoors, you can all marvel at the sight and sound of a hummingbird fluttering around a spring flower. Or the sound of bees buzzing near fragrant star jasmine. Or the sound of the train whistle bellowing at Howarth Park on a sunny day. These are all sounds and sights that will make you smile, remind you of springtime.

At a soccer game or practice, if you are on the sidelines, and are quiet, there are many things in which to marvel. The “youngers” giggling as they run in a pack toward or away from a goal.

The sound of pre-teen players communicating soccer speak … “support, behind you, help!”, as they play on the pitch. And the sounds of intense play of our older teens toiling away in an intense way. On my rounds on the fields each week, I enjoy these sights and sounds, as many of you do.

In order to enjoy these sights and sounds, spectators must
listen and respect those on the pitch, the players, coaches and referees. They are all trying to communicate with each other and get better.

Please keep that in mind and resist the urge to get too involved…yelling, screaming, walking “Fido” on the pitch and getting way too intense. This done, all of us will have a safer, richer and better experience.

Our youth, both the players and referees, are trainees. They do a great job. They are not perfect. They will make mistakes. (They know this most times) and need not be reminded from the sidelines. We have very committed adult coaches, adult referees and BOD members that counsel and train all our youth ( players and referees) in their soccer endeavors. Please talk to them, away from the game.

Get involved! This is your club!

We are always looking for our members to get involved. We need coaches, Referees, BOD members and tournament volunteers. Have input and be a part of the fun. We are at your service.

Please contact me directly, as we need several BOD members immediately.

Try it, you’ll like it! Please support the program
listen to the kids this season and let me know what you hear. I am sure you will be delighted and surprised. Have a great season in 2008.

Yours in Soccer!
