Barrie Baycat Day CENTER>
Last year Angus Minor Baseball declared July 4th "Barrie Baycat Day"!! We encouraged everyone associated with AMBA to attend the double header against London.
What a day!! Players and coaches wore their Angus uniforms and parents wore their AMBA-GEAR or anything blue. Angus was very well represented. We took up the whole middle section! The Barrie Baycats sure did take notice of us. Baycat pitcher, Angus Roy noted that he really liked our name!!
The day was geared to the kids involved in minor ball. Our own C. Gooderham of the Angus Tyke#2 team was selected to throw the opening pitch!! He was thrilled and we were PROUD!
All the younger kids had a chance to go out on the field with the Baycats and compete to see who could throw the farthest ball. In addition to getting pictures and autographs from the players, the kids were also able to join the Junior Baycat fan club for free and received cool stuff just for signing up, as well as being eligible to win prizes all day long in draws that were done between innings. The kids had a blast!! For every ball knocked out of the park, most of the kids ran after it. If you found the ball, you got to turn it in and trade it in for an authentic autographed ball! The kids sure got their exercise that day because there were a lot of balls knocked out of the park. Some kids had two or three balls.
There were draws for the adults, too. With every two dollar purchase of a program your ticket went in for a draw. There were a lot of Angus winners that day!
Barrie won both games and we all enjoyed great baseball, excellent community spirit, good food and had a fantastic time!
Angus Minor Baseball had a draw of our own for those who attended on that date. We gave out tickets to everyone there and held a draw for some really awesome Baycat merchandise at our Home Run Derby. We gave away a nice jersey, hats, T-shirts, balls, pennants, and game tickets.
Hats off to the Barrie Baycat Organization for hosting this incredible event. It lets our kids know that there is an opportunity for them to play at a higher level, as well as providing some awesome role models to look up to. Some of these players have signed with major league teams at one time or another! It also gives the kids a chance to get up-close and personal with the players.
This year Baycat Day will be held July 8th. The Baycats are hosting the IBL All Star game and we would like to be a part of that! Wear your "Angus" blue and come together for some community spirit and FUN!!

Joyce Derech Memorial All Star Games

*The Joyce Derech Memorial Award
Outstanding Effort, Dedication & "LOVE OF THE GAME"
Each year, Angus Minor Baseball presents this SPECIAL award to an Angus player from each team, after a lot of careful consideration by their coaches!!
The Joyce Derech Memorial Award is not necessarily for the "best kid on the team", the MVP or the All Star. This award is for the player who meets a "certain criteria". He or she must show a tremendous amount of effort, dedication, and a pure love for the game. They must be a good sportsman, a team player, and cooperate with his or her teammates and coaching staff. They also must be encouraging to others on their team when they are down and consistently show up to practice with a positive attitude.
These kids are always the ones to give 110 percent of themselves to their team and to the game, no matter what position that they are assigned to play.
Four years ago, the South Simcoe Minor Baseball Executive dedicated the All Star Games in memory of Joyce Derech, of Angus.
Joyce was the heart and soul of Angus Minor Baseball for many years. She was also very involved with the entire South Simcoe league. She was TRULY there for the kids... ALL THE KIDS, including her own FIVE kids who all played for Angus. Michael is still playing for Angus and is in his last year at the Midget level.
We present this award with this very special lady in mind. Joyce was always looking for that "special kid" on each team that she went out to watch. And she went out to watch MANY MANY games!! She would always go out of her way to talk to them and to encourage them. She would try to give them tips on how they could improve their game. These kids were not necessarily the ones in the SPOT LIGHT. She recognized and appreciated the "spirit" of which these kids possessed. She could see past the skill level or ability that some kids were naturally blessed with. She would see what was in their hearts. That is what we would like to recognize when presenting this award, in Joyces memory.

Angus Lions' Canada Day Tyke Tournament

Every year the Angus District Lions Club hosts a wonderful Canada Day celebration at the Angus Community Park that includes lots of fun and games, great food, good music, and excellent craft and raffle tables. Then the Lions Club wraps up a fantastic day with some totally AWESOME fireworks!!
The Angus Lions Club also invite the Angus Tyke teams to hold a tournament. Last year, all the games were truly exciting to watch with some real nail-biting moments at times, including an amazing triple play! Congratulations go out to Angus Tyke #1 team, coached by Gord Scriver for winning the championship game. Angus Tyke #2 team, coached by Brent Walkem finsihed a close second. Both of the Angus Tyke teams managed to raise enough money at their raffle table so they could purchase team jackets or hoodies. This was only made possible thanks to the Angus Tyke parents who worked so hard collecting prizes and baking some delicious items to sell at their raffle and bake tables. Angus Minor Baseball wishes to thank the Angus Lions Club for providing such beautiful trophies and medals for all the kids that come out to the tournament, year after year.
