COACHES DOs AND DON’Ts
• Do encourage your team, win or lose.
• Do read the AMBA Rules & Regulations, SSMBA Rulebook, & Baseball Canada’s Official Rules of Baseball.
• Do arrive at the diamond a half an hour before game time.
• Do inform the visiting coach, AMBA UIC and the SSMBA convenor of a rainout or cancellation in the allotted time. Umpires must be cancelled and the visiting team must be informed before they leave home, with keeping in mind their travel time. A monetary penalty will be applied if these procedures are not followed. Coaches that do not follow these rules will be expected to pay for the fines imposed on AMBA or face suspension.
• Do make arrangements ASAP for make-up games. Umpires and diamond time must be arranged. A monetary penalty will be applied by SSMBA if this procedure is not followed.
• Do clean up the dugouts of garbage after a game or practice, home & away.
• Do keep all equipment in good condition. It is very expensive. Report any replacement needs to the equipment manager immediately.
• Do wear a coach’s uniform to all games consisting of an AMBA Coach’s shirt; AMBA hat; jeans, track pants, or dark-colored Bermuda shorts according to the SSMBA constitution to avoid ejection
• Do phone or email your SSMBA convenor the final game scores, win or lose. A monetary penalty will be applied by SSMBA if this procedure is not followed.
• Do ensure that your players and coaching staff show respect for the umpires and the opposing team at all times to avoid ejection.
• Do keep control of your ANGUS parents and spectators, home & away to avoid ejection
• Do keep count and try to locate all balls that are used for games and practices. These balls will be for practices and for the start up of the next season. DO NOT GIVE AWAY GAME USED BALLS!
• Do ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.
• Do HAVE FUN.
• Do Not show ANY FAVOURITISM, verbally or otherwise, to your own child or a particular group of players. Everyone will notice it and we will have a hard time fielding that team again next season, as we have often seen in the past. If you think that your child is the best player on the team, keep it to yourself! FAVOURITISM always causes TEAM FAILURE!
• Do Not use new balls for practices. Use your game-used balls.
• Do Not give away new or game-used balls.
• Do Not allow players to swing bats unless they are in the batter’s box or in the batting circle AT ANY TIME!!
• Do Not allow players to put their fingers through the dug-out fence facing the diamond.
• Do Not allow players to stand in the doorway leading out to the diamond. Foul balls do go into the dugout quite OFTEN!
• Do Not allow players to remove their batting helmet until they are in the dugout. They will be ejected.
• Do Not take your RULEBOOK ONTO THE DIAMOND OR INTO THE DUGOUT. You will be ejected by the umpire!
• Do Not allow yourself to be alone with any child, other than your own. If you must drive a child home, please take someone with you at all times. This is for your own protection as well as the child.
• Do Not smoke or be impaired while at a game or practice.
• Do Not give out the children’s personal and confidential information to ANYONE.
• Do Not use foul and or inappropriate language around the children.
• Do Not verbally belittle or physically manhandle any players. You will be dismissed by AMBA immediately!
• Do Not allow your ANGUS players, coaches, or spectators to vandalize the dugout, property, or equipment, home and away.
• Do Not allow any food or drinks in the dugout other than water or Gatorade-type drinks.
• Do Not forget to call us if you need any advice with players or parents!
