Sunday, July 29 UNDEFEATED IN HUMBLE! The Angleton Elite 17U Boys placed first at The Gym in Humble with a perfect 5-0 record. They mangled Sweeny in the first game on Friday night, with a final score of 54-30 and went on to beat the Humble Superstars by 10 with a 60-50 finish to end the night. Against Sweeny, Anthony Alexander was the high scorer with 13 points. Roddrick Butler and Deshaun McFarland had the only two 3-pointers of the game. Matt LeJune led the defense with 6 steals, while Butler and Alexander each contributed 6 rebounds. Big post play by Darren Grice was also a deciding factor in this game. Against the Humble Superstars, McFarland led the Elite to their second victory with 12 points while Butler and J.K. Laws each scored 11. Waylon Jones had 5 steals and Butler led the team in rebounds with 6, with Trae Turner drawing the only charge of the tournament for the Elite. At the start of bracket play on Saturday, the Elite sent the Magnolia Warriors home after a decisive 51-24 victory. Warrior player #5 was ejected after back-to-back flagrant fouls. Alexander scored 18 points and led the team in rebounds with 6. The defensive effort was incredible, with every Elite player getting at least one steal. The Elite had their work cut out for them as they faced Total Package in the second game of the day. Total Package was up by 5 at the half and Henry Josey fouled-out, but the Elite pulled off a narrow win with a final score of 39-38 to move ahead in the bracket to the championship game. Josh Collins led the offense with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Butler sank the only two 3-pointers for the Elite. Denez Nichols and Alexander were 100% from the free-throw line, and LeJune was 100% from the field during this very physical game in which every shot was needed to pull out a victory. The Elite faced the Houston Airwalkers in the championship contest, a team that they had lost to before. The Airwalkers were up by 1 at the half, but the Elite finished strong, outscoring the Airwalkers 33-24 in the second half to finish with a 56-48 win. Collins and McFarland led the offensive effort with a combined 27 points and 14 rebounds, and Jones had the only block of the game for the Elite. Sunday, April 22 Photos from Kingwood Classic!
