Alpine Girls Softball Association: New to AGSA

New to Alpine Girls Softball???

AGSA has been a part of the Alpine community for over 30 years. Starting as a Bobbysox league and switching to ASA for the 2001 season Alpine has produced many great players, including many of which that have starred at Granite Hills and Steele Canyon High Schools as well as colleges around the country. While trying to help the progression of the serious softball player we haven't lost our primary focus - that of having fun playing softball and providing a sport for all players regardless of skill. I personally find the most rewarding part of coaching is seeing a new player get their 1st hit or 1st catch and watching the player's eyes light up with excitement!

AGSA regularly has 250 girls ranging from 4 1/2 to 16 years old of all abilities and abides by a few simple rules:

  • Every girl will bat and play at least 2 defensive innings in each game.
  • Pitching innings are limited (based on one official game per week) so more pitchers are encouraged to be developed over the course of a season (see Rules Section 8-19).
  • Run rules in the 1st 3 innings are enforced so games are more competitive and allows teams to develop pitchers without as much pressure (see Rules Section 8-17).
Interested in taking a team???

Because AGSA uses a try-out system and allows managers to draft their teams as they see fit it (does not apply to the 6U division) becomes important to remember the following guidelines:

  • Managers may "protect" 4 players before the draft (2 in the 8U division), no more than 2 of which can be designated as pitchers. Reference Section 5 - Team Draft on the Rules & Regulations page for other team selection rules.
  • The try-out is crucial to the selection of players so having multiple members of your staff present is extremely important.
  • Our player agent as well as the division reps will be available to ask questions about players before and during the draft to help you out - we want the teams as balanced as possible.
