Friday, October 6 CONGRATULATIONS, NICOLE! Congratulations to Nicole Lee, who was elected 2006 Homecoming Queen of West Allis Central High School! Nicole is a 6-year member and 3-year captain of the Sr. Allegro Team. SIGN UP NOW FOR THE ALLEGRO YOUTH AND ADULT DANCE CLASSES! Registration is in full-swing from now until the first week in October, and classes are filling quickly! Please click on the link below, and you can print out registration forms. Just mail or take to Parkway Recreation Center, 2930 S. Root River Pkwy. West Allis (National Ave. to 114th St., north 1 block). You will receive a class confirmation the week of October 1st. These classes are taught by members of the Allegro Dance Team! Instructors this year are: Nicole Lee, Colleen Floryance, Holly Hanrahan, Mara Pagel, and Lauren Brinker. Our youth classes are an extension of the Allegro Dance Program and are not a part of the competitive Allegro Elementary Team. The class participants will perform at the Spring Youth Dance Recital in March, 2007. U.D.A. CAMP RESULTS! The Jr. and Sr. Allegro Teams just returned from the U.D.A. Dance Camp held at U.W.-Milwaukee from July 25th-28th. This was a FANTASTIC camp, with 22 teams in attendance from all over Wisconsin and Illinois and 10 U.D.A. instructors and 4 U.D.A. administrative staff. We especially liked the emphasis on technique classes this year - one every day - and the huge selection of routines offered. There were 25 routines offered at different levels of learning - Level 1 being the easiest (single turns, straight leaps - hey... these weren't even easy, ask the girls!), Level 2 (double turns, etc.), Level 3 (doubles/triples, switch leaps, calypsos, etc.), and Level 4 (add fouettes/seconds, combinations into the mix. There were Pom, Jazz, Hip Hop, Kick, Lyrical, and Team (where a whole team learns the same routine on a Level 1/2). There also is a Home Routine competition (teams bring their own routine to be evaluated)and an All Star evaluation (teams can have up to 6 girls be evaluated on solo performances). Teams can qualify for the U.D.A. National Dance Team Championship at DisneyWorld in two ways... first by being a trophy winner in the home routine evaluation and second by their overall camp score. Following are the results at this year's camp: JUNIOR TEAM: 1ST PLACE - HOME ROUTINE, qualified for Nationals Camp Routines - 29 ribbons, 7 red! EARNED THE SPIRIT STICK ALL 4 DAYS! DRILL DOWN AWARD: Angie Gence, 2nd Runner Up CONGRATULATIONS, Allegro! The Senior Team is going to U.D.A. Nationals! Tuesday, June 13 WE HAVE A VERY BUSY COUPLE OF WEEKS AHEAD OF US! On Thursday, June 15th, the Junior and Varsity Allegro teams will be marching in the West Allis Centennial Parade (which precedes the Western Days Parade). This parade originates and ends in State Fair Park and begins at 6:30 p.m. On June 16th and 17th, girls from all four of the Allegro teams will be performing solos and ensembles at West Allis Western Days at State Fair Park. We have eighteen performances scheduled plus a children's clinic. Then on June 28th, 29th and 30th, Allegro will be conducting its annual 4th of July Children's Clinic at Hale High School, marching with the clinic children in the West Allis 4th of July Parade on July 2nd, and performing solos and ensemble routines along with the clinic routines at the Pre-Fireworks Extravaganza on July 4th on the International Amphitheatre Stage. June is always a very busy time for us. We are fortunate to have finished our varsity kickline ("Faithfully") and our junior pom ("Wild") routines for camp and can now begin new routines for upcoming competitions! Again this year, we held a dance clinic for K-8 children that ran June 28/29/30 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hale H.S. The participants learned patriotic-themed pom routines in groups determined by age. They marched with the Allegro teams in the 4th of July Parade (on July 2nd) and then performed their routines at the Annual 4th of July Pre-Fireworks Talent Extravaganza held on the International Amphitheater Stage at State Fair Park. The show included performances by talent show finalists and Allegro team routines, solos, and emsembles and lasted more than an hour. The rains came about half-way through, but that didn't stop us... out came the umbrellas (the stage has a roof)... and the show went on! THANK YOU to all of the all star team girls who worked so hard on teaching the children's routines, the junior team girls who came to help out, all the team members for their awesome performances, and Coach Nikki and Coach Sarah for their help in putting this all together. This is a huge effort and alot of "behind the scenes" time and energy goes into it... but we are thrilled and honored to be able to perform a service like this for our community.
