The West Allis Allegro Dance Team is an all star competitive program that is made up of four teams: The Elementary, Junior, Senior Varsity, and Elite Teams.
The Elementary Team consists of 3rd-6th graders; the Junior Team consists of 6th-9th graders; the Sr. Varsity Team consists of 8th-12th graders; and the Elite Team consists of post-high school members. Placement by grade is "overlapped" and placement is based upon skill level. Auditions are held in April and May, and the performing season runs from June through March of each year.
Allegro has been recognized for its community service and unique programming, both on a local and a national level. It has received the HYPE Community Service Award, has been named as the UDA/Varsity National Dance Team of the Month, and the advisor/coach has been selected to the UPA Coaches' Hall of Fame.
The teams perform at local community events and compete in 10-12 competitions throughout the year locally and throughout the Midwest, and the Varsity team attends a national dance competition each year. In 2006, they earned 5th place in Varsity All Star Pom at the UDA Nationals at Disney World in Orlando. They compete in pom pon, jazz, hip hop and kickline team routines as well as in solos, duets/trios and ensembles.
The teams operate under the auspices of the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District Recreation Department. The coaches are: Judy Johnson (Advisor/Coach-all teams), Amy Carroll (assistant coach-all teams), Sarah Davis (jr. team coach and assistant sr. team coach) Christina Hofmann (jr. team assistant coach), and Colleen Floryance (elementary team coach).
