Week 1 News
Alexander Pee Wee Roughriders start season off on a winning note.

Alexander Park Pee Wee team met the Westpark Packers for the first regular season game at Westpark’s & Sunnybrooke’s newly named field in DDO, Glenn McHugh Field.  Alexander took possession of the ball shortly after their defense stopped Westpark early in the first quarter.  Alexander’s misdirection style offense and a solid effort by their offensive line and QB, helped them to move the ball quickly and saw their fullback, Davide Santilli score the first of his two touchdowns on the day.  Roughrider running back, Kyle Kennedy also finished the day with 2 TDs and 1 by RB, Phil Ferron. The Roughrider’s proved that they are a stingy group as they only allowed 1 TD.  After Westpark had successfully scored a major and the 2 point after, their other 2 points came from a safety. Although there were many memorable hits by both defenses, the stand out defensive plays were by Roughrider corner, Eric Paquette as he contributed with numerous individual tackles throughout the game.  Strong kicking saw deep kick offs, a successful short kick off and turnover, 3 point after kicks by veteran Shawn Steen.  Final score saw Alexander beating Westpark, 38 – 10.  With seconds remaining in the game, it ended sadly as one of Westpark’s star running backs, #28 Raheem McDonald, broke his arm.  Both teams wish him a speedy recovery.

Week 2 News – Alexander Roughriders vs A Ma Baie

For the second time in 2 weeks, Alexander’s Pee Wee team went onto the road  to play their cross town rivals, A Ma Baie.  When the captains for Alexander chose to defer the coin toss, they knew that we would likely end up receiving the ball in both the opening kick off and the beginning of the 2nd half, which they did.  A Ma Baie’s defense looked poised and ready to pounce on their opponent’s offense as they were really crowding the line of scrimmage.  They managed to stop the Roughrider’s offense on the first two occasions.  Thanks to an incredible defensive effort by the Roughriders, it didn’t take them long to run off the field and hand the ball over to the offense.  On A Ma Baie’s 3rd possession, they were forced into a must pass situation which had the Roughrider’s strong safety, Shawn Steen salivating.  Shawn picked up where he left off last year.  He intercepted the pass and ran it back for a 35 yard touchdown.  He proceeded with a successful point after kick.  When the ball was then kicked off to A Ma Baie, solid hitting by the Riders saw the ball recovered and provided them with terrific field position.  The rest of the game was all Alexander Park.  The defense managed 2 interceptions and 6 fumble recoveries thanks to solid hitting by not only the whole defense but more specifically, Jeremie Furino, Brian Harelimana, Patrick Smith and Anthony Melotti.  The defense was a wrecking crew !  By day’s end, the team was able to boast the following accomplishments;  Davide Santilli 4 TDs, Tom Quinn 2 TDs and 1 thrown TD, Phil Ferron 1 TD, Shawn Steen 1 TD and 4 converts and a single point, Patrick Mons 3 converts, Patrick Smith 2 QB sacks, entire defense 8 turnovers.  Seeing that the game was quickly out of reach for A Ma Baie, the officials ran the clock for the entire second half.  The final score was Alexander 63, A Ma Baie 0.

The Roughriders will surely be tested next weekend when they play host to the St-Lazare Stallions for their first home game.  St-Lazare currently shares first place with Alexander and Ile Bizard who all have the same, 2 – 0 record.

Week 3 - The Stallions

It was Alexander Park’s turn to host the St-Lazare Stallions this past Sunday.  The Pee Wee Stallion’s team came into the game with the same 2 – 0 record.  The Alexander Roughriders knew that they were going to be in for quite a tough game.  The Stallion’s offense started with the ball in their end and managed to move it some 50 yards and the better part of the first quarter before hitting the Rider’s defensive wall whereby the offense was then given their first chance.  Strong Stallion’s defense quickly saw the ball move back to their offense.  It was a strong defensive effort by both teams until The Alexander’s strong safety, Shawn Steen was back to receive a 4th down punt.  When caught, Steen scampered over 50 yards for the first major of the day and to open the scoring.  He then completed the convert.    With minutes remaining in the first half and some impressive running by the Rider’s QB, Tom Quinn, the team found themselves in good field position.  Running back Jesse White took and ran the ball 35 yards and was surely heading for their 2nd TD when one of the Stallions safeties tackled him on the 1 yard line and stripped him of the ball.   It was the quick reaction of TE, Malcolm Watt that saw him jump onto the fumbled ball in the end zone and scored with less than a minute to go in the 2nd quarter.  In the 2nd half, veteran center Kevin Black kept the offensive coordinator informed of what he felt was and was not working.  It allowed for Alexander’s offense to make necessary adjustments and changes to the offensive scheme of plays.   1st year full back, Davide Santilli took advantage of the middle and exposed it when he ran and broke 2 tackles for a 45 yard TD.  QB, Tom Quinn also hit pay dirt on his own with speed and determination.

St-Lazare had their chances and were moving the ball but the hard hitting and stingy Alexander defense never let them see their end zone.   Tremendous defensive effort were made by all but stand out tackles and hits were made by Jeremie Furino, Patrick Smith, Brian Harelimana, Patrick Mons, Nico Herrera and Shawn Steen.  Steen also caught an interception and also ran it in for a TD.  All but one convert was made.

Alexander improved their perfect record to 3 – 0 after posting 40 – 0 win over St-Lazare.  The Riders and are currently tied for first place with Ile Bizard.
