Sharon Center Wins AA League Title

On Thursday night, Sharon Center Cox Painting locked up the Greater Akron AA Baseball League title by defeating the 356th Fighter Group Storm 2-1. Sharon Center won the game with one out in the bottom of the 7th on a RBI double by catcher Greg Schwehm. With the game scoreless through five innings, the Storm broke through in the Top of the 6th. Ted Hardy led off with a single and the Storm loaded the bases on consecutive misplayed bunts by Sharon Center. With no outs and Sharon Center playing their infield in, Storm shortstop Randall Hoffman hit a shot that Sharon Center shortstop Ron Spears made a diving grab to stop. A run scored, but it saved what could have been the start to a big inning. Sharon Center pitcher, Nathan Miller, would go on to get the next two hitters out and keep the score at 1-0. Sharon Center would bounce back in the Bottom of the 6th to tie the score on a RBI double by Anthony Konefal. Then in the Bottom of the 7th, Ron Spears would reach on an error with one out, Rod Lane would single, and then Schwehm would deliver the game winning hit, scoring John Luebke who pinch ran for Spears. The double, was Schwehm's third double of the Championship Series. Miller would pick up the victory, going the distance for Sharon Center. He scattered eight hits, walked one batter, and struck out three. Bryan Celik was the tough luck loser for the Storm. Celik also allowed eight hits, walked four batters, and struck out four. Sharon Center finishes their season with a 28-10 mark, while the Storm finishes at 29-11-1.

Congratulations go out to Sharon Center and Sharon Center's manager/sponsor Don Cox on a great season. It was a great series for the teams involved and the AA League as a whole.
