Friday, April 6Pitch Count Study to Be Implemented
2007 PITCH COUNT STUDY
The Executive Board of Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. unanimously approved conducting a pitch count study during the 2007 tournament season.
The study will be used to identify the following:
(a)Total number of pitches thrown by each pitcher during the entire 2007 tournament season. All pitches and innings will be recorded for the study.
(b)Total number of pitches thrown by a pitcher as related to innings pitched (by tournament day) will also be monitored for study purposes.
(c)Total number of pitches thrown by a pitcher in a game will be matched against the current innings rule (4 innings). The data will measure the differences between a pitch count number and rest hours (40 hrs) as now required to determine pitcher eligibility.
The intent of the study is as follows:
(a)Evaluate as to the accuracy and ease of monitoring pitch counts.
(b)Collect and report data in an informative manner as part of the research.
A pitch count regulation could become effective for the 2008 Dixie Boys Baseball season.
The following process will occur:
(a)The Commissioner along with a Task Force will compile all information.
(b)The Safety Committee will review safety data (related to pitching injuries to youth) and based on the information could request that a pitch count limit rule be considered and implemented by the Board.
(c)A rule change suggestion will be submitted by local leagues or by the Commissioner. The 2008 Rules Committee; with completed data and a rule change recommendation, will consider. Board approval required for change and implementation.
The table below is intended to serve as a guideline for 2007 local league implementation and further discussion. Collected data was used to formulate the numbers as recommended below.
