When will practices or games be cancelled?
The safety of everyone is a top priority! We will cancel a practice if weather conditions are a threat to the safety of our players and staff. This includes extremely heavy downpour, lightning in the immediate area, hail storms and tornado warnings. We will not take a risk, and will always err on the side of caution. If these conditions arise during a practice, please come and pick up your child as we have no shelter at the practice field.
The City of Calgary has the authority to cancel or delay games at their discretion.
The call out committee will make every effort to contact families as quickly as possible when a change in schedule occurs. Occasionally due to the fast development and movement of these storms we are unable to get the calls out early enough. In these cases we will have a representative at the field to inform you.
PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR NEW F.A.Q. PAGE.
WELCOME TO THE STORM BANTAM FOOTBALL PROGRAM
We are currently without a major sponsor for the 2008 season. If this appeals to you please contact us for more information.
If you have any questions about our program please feel free to call us at

GENERAL INFO
The team philosophy stresses the importance of fundamental skill development, preparation and hard work within a framework of organization and discipline. We require commitment and respect from the players and in return we assure them an atmosphere of competitiveness and fun.
Players are expected to commit to the practice schedule. The relatively high level of time commitment is offset by a fairly short season (3 months).
AGES
Players must be 13 - 15 years of age not turning 16 prior to December 31. Additionally, players must not be in Grade 10 in 2008.
Each player must have a medical form, which is supplied by the league, filled out and signed by a Doctor prior to playing any games or participating in contact practices.
PRACTICES
Summer Months – 4 (four) nights per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm rain or shine.
Occasionally extra practices will be called if necessary. Times vary as to available daylight.
Please consider that each practice a player misses sets that player back with reference to the other players on the team forcing them into a ‘catch-up’ mode. Playing time during games will be directly affected by practice attendance, attitude and participation.
Each year, we have many players that are first time players so previous experience is not required. Attitude and commitment to the team are more important than football skills at this level. We can teach the skills.
Our team will carry only 35-40 players.
The Storm may also have a developmental squad. This gives a select group of athletes who did not make the main playing squad the opportunity to continue to practice, develop and stay involved with the team with the objective of eventually developing to a level where they can compete on the main playing squad. It is possible for a player to advance from the developmental squad to the main playing team within the 2008 season.(a $225.00 fee will be required to cover league registration)
If more players try out then we can accommodate, cuts will have to be made. Another team within the league that needs players usually welcomes players who are cut.
GAMES
Late August through to the end of October. Games are usually played Saturdays and last for approximately 1½ hours.
Players are required to be at the facility 1 hour prior to the scheduled start of the game for warm up and a team meeting. Players not in full uniform (this includes game day socks) will not be allowed to participate in the game.
Bussing will NOT be provided this season.
All games are held at the Shouldice Athletic Park (1515 Home Road NW).
EQUIPMENT
All equipment for the season is supplied except footwear. Players are responsible for the maintenance and care of the equipment for the season. Fines may be associated with lost or damaged equipment (beyond reasonable wear and tear).Only league supplied equipment may be worn.
Cleats are required. Soccer cleats are acceptable but many players prefer the extra ankle support supplied by football cleats. Metal cleats are not permitted. Screw in stud type cleats are not permitted. Smaller sizes of football cleats are often hard to find. Shop early for the best selection. Team Skyline, Kodiak Sports,Tuxedo Sports, Kicks, Final Goal and Sport Chek usually carry a decent variety of football cleats.
COSTS
Total Cost is $302.50. This cost includes:
League Fee - $275.00 which includes the insurance fee.
Practice Facility Fee - $27.50 for the season which we pay to The City of Airdrie.
PLEASE NOTE: FEES PAID ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
A $100.00 refundable deposit on equipment will also be collected from all players, Main Playing Team and Developmental Squad. This money will be refunded only after each and every player's equipment has been returned.
ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE EQUIPMENT WILL BE ISSUED.
PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ACCEPT POST DATED CHEQUES.
Note: Bussing will NOT be supplied to games this season.
Please make cheques payable to Airdrie Storm Bantam Football.
NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH THE COSTS?
For lower income families, assistance is available to help cover sports fees through Kidsport Alberta. Forms will be included in your registration package. Please talk to the Team Manager if help is required to complete the form.
FUNDRAISING
As you can imagine, a great deal of time and effort goes into fielding a team each season and there are several ongoing expenses that we incur. Unfortunately, our program has limited finances and for the most part are able to cover only our basic costs. As a result, we must rely on fundraising and donations from local corporations. Coaches and Staff members do NOT participate in fundraising.
One of the fundraisers we are committed to are 50/50 draws at Stamps games. Participation will be mandatory for players.
WHAT OTHER COMMITMENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE?
You need to commit to your family.
You need to commit to your school studies.
You need to commit to your community.
You need to commit to your team and to yourself.
You need to respect your fellow teammates, coaches, opponents and referees on and off the field.
You need to participate in team fundraising (silent auction, bottle drives, bbq’s, etc.)
And most of all you need to work hard have fun and enjoy your football season.
Look for exciting changes to the Storm program.
THE COACHING STAFF AND PLAYERS WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF OUR SPONSORS AND FANS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
