The Spring 2014 Regular Seasons are over for all divisions!



Star and State tournaments begin this coming week for Shetland, Pinto and Pinto Kid Pitch hosted on our very own fields at Akimel and Estrella fields while Mustang and Pony have 3 or 4 more weeks before their tournaments begin in Scottsdale. We hope everyone has enjoyed the regular season and some great baseball action.

Good luck to all the teams and players in the State Tournaments!

Registration for our Fall 2014 Season should being soon and we hope to see many familiar faces and lots of new ones too!

Summer Update



The Arizona State PONY Tournaments begin this weekend for Shetland, Pinto and Pinto Kid Pitch hosted on our very own fields at Akimel and Estrella fields.

The Shetland Tournament has 4 teams represented by All-Star teams from Casa Grande, Chandler, Queen Creek and Ahwatukee battling it out to be the Arizona State PONY Shetland Champions. Pool play on Friday and Saturday with the Championship and Consolation games on Sunday.

The Pinto Tournament has 6 teams represented by All-Star teams from Casa Grande, Chandler A, Chandler B, Old Scottsdale, Queen Creek and Ahwatukee competing in two pools to be the Arizona State PONY Pinto Champions and earning the right to represent Arizona at the PONY Pinto West Zone World Series. Pool play on Friday and Saturday with the Semi-Finals and Finals on Sunday.

The Pinto Kid Pitch Tournament has 2 teams represented by the Queen Creek KP All-Stars and our very own Ahwatukee Devils 8U team . They will play a Best of Three series to become the Arizona State PONY Pinto Kid Pitch Champions and the right to represent Arizona at the PONY Pinto KP West Zone World Series. Games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Come out and cheer on our local All-Stars!

Mustang and Pony have 3 or 4 more weeks before their tournaments begin in Scottsdale.

Desert Vista Thunder Baseball Summer Camps



Looking for extra baseball time and instruction this summer?

Desert Vista will be hosting a baseball camp in the first two weeks of June for grades 4-6 and 7-9 (2014-15 school year). Mustang Spring 2014 1st Round Playoff Action!



Again, now that the regular season is over and the final results are in and the seed postions determined for the playoffs, the teams for the first round of Mustang Playoff games are known. Remember the tournament format is *double elimination* so one loss puts the pressure on but you can bear down and still come back and take it all!

Mustang 1st round games:

Game #1 Sat. 5/10 @ 9am on the Akimel Bronco field (Lower SW) - #1 Mustang Indians vs #4 Mustang Brewers

  • The winner of Game #1 plays next in Game #3 on Wednesday evening.

End of Season Update



The Spring 2014 Regular Season winds down for Shetland, Champions and the Competitive Divisions!

We are nearing the end of another outstanding season of baseball competition in the Shetland, Champions and the Pinto, Mustang and Pony Competitive divsions. Each divison has just a few games left the next one or two weekends before the All-Star and State playoff tournaments begin. We hope everyone has been enjoying the season and some great baseball action.

The Spring 2014 Regular Season ends for Pinto and Mustang and the '2nd' Season begins!

The regular season of games as finished up for the Pinto and Mustang Divisions with a few teams pulling away from the pack. For Pinto and Mustang divsions the results of the regular season determine the seeding order for the in-house playoff tournament. The game schedule for the playoffs for each division have been entered on the website and now that the regular season results are in the seeds are known and the teams have been placed into their 1st round games. Games may be found on the Home Plate, Calendar or Schedule pages. As the playoffs progress, check back on this website regularly to see the next game for your team or player.

Team & Individual Picture Retake Date!



For those teams or individuals wishing for a picture do-over and for those that were unable to make it on the originally schedule day, Once Upon a Time Portraits will be back at Akimel Middle School Bronco field for retakes on Saturday May 3rd from 730am to 930am.

For Individual photos - you can stop by any time during those hours.

For Team photos - coaches please contact Jennifer Ensley to schedule a retake time during those hours.

Spring 2014 Opening Day Ceremonies!



After weeks of practice Opening Day is upon us and the season is ready to begin!

 

When: 8:00 am, Saturday, March 22 (arrive between 7:30 am - 7:45 am)
Where: Akimel Bronco field
Why: It's OPENING DAY!
Who: Everyone (players, parents, siblings, grandparents, neighbors and friends) should be there!

What do you need to know:

Parking: Please allow extra time to park and get to the fields as the parking lot will fill up. Please do not park in the fire lanes at the school.

Attire: Players should be in full uniforms (jersey, hat, pants, socks and cleats), although gloves, helmets, etc are not needed during the Opening Ceremony.

Duration: Approximately one (1) hour. Shetland, Pinto, Pinto Kid Pitch and the Pony Division teams will be playing games starting at 9:30 so feel free to stick around and cheer on your friends at the fields.

Concession Stand: This will be open to get your morning coffee and refreshments throughout the day. Throughout the season we will operate the concession stand during the weekend games only.

Picture Day: Pictures are on March 29 and will not conflict with Opening Day. Coaches have received the order forms and time slots and can distribute to the player families immediately.

New Lights at Akimel A-al and Estrella Sports Fields!



From an article on the front page of the Ahwatukee Foothills News paper on January 14th, Kyrene School District has upgraded the lighting system at the Akimel A-al and Estrella sports fields over the winter break. Follow the link in the Headline above to read the article. Sounds like a major improvement - can't wait to see them in action first hand next month!

Bring Your Own Team Competitive Divisions



COMMUNITY = RECREATION + COMPETITIVE

Families:

The demand for highly competitive youth baseball in our community continues to grow and our League will continue to meet the needs of our young athletes. New this coming season to the AFPBA, we now offer competitive divisions at our Mustang and Bronco levels. The League has always enjoyed the friend and coach requests to form teams at our Shetland and Pinto divisions, but never allowed the teams to continue playing as they developed more advanced skills and played at higher levels as a team. We are now able to make this change and let these teams stay together. No other baseball league in the area provides this opportunity.

Our competitive divisions will play by the PONY National rules, offering more of a "real" baseball development. We will provide a 12 game season with approximately 1/2 of the games at our home Akimel fields and remaining games will require travel to play against other competitive teams in Scottsdale, Chandler, Queen Creek and Casa Grande. The competitive divisions may include Club teams or just a group of players that want to continue playing together. At the end of the regular season, these full teams can enter the PONY State All Star tournaments for opportunities to qualify for regional and national tournaments. The competitive division teams will not face the recreational division teams in any games.

AFPBA will continue to offer the recreational baseball experience at all Divisions. We are working to improve the rules at the recreational division to allow more competitive and enjoyable games.

Player registration is currently open for the Spring 2014 season.
