AFWC has been active for 20+ years. It is a volunteer, nonprofit organization. All coaches & board members volunteer their time and talents. Our season (Freestyle) will begin practices in mid February and tournaments begin in March with the final "State" Tournament the beginning of May. As we are a volunteer organization, we encourage parent participation. Many parents who do not have any knowledge about wrestling can learn as we go. Our club ranges in age from 5 years to high school. We are extremely committed to the children.AFWC motto: “Building Champions for Life”Please contact us with any questions - we hope you will join us for a SPECTACULAR 2010 Season!!

· The AFWC Club fee for 2010 has not yet been determined. Our board will meet in January to confirm 2010 information and fees. 2009 fees were $175. Each weekly tournament (on Saturday) is sponsored by a different club and usually has a fee of $15 per wrestler. These fees are paid to AFWC as you register for each tournament and are NOT included in your Registration fees. Tournaments are held in the Anchorage area. They are also held in Eagle River, Wasilla, Fairbanks, Soldotna, Nikiski & Homer. Expenses for these trips (lodging/travel/etc...are paid by the wrestler).
· It is a requirement that wrestlers wear "wrestling" shoes. You can sometimes purchase these at one of the used sporting goods stores or buy new. We suggest that you don't purchase the first pair “online” as they fit differently than other shoes. Headgear is required for Schoolboy age (14) and younger and all girls. Kneepads are optional. Headgear and kneepads are also the wrestler's responsibility.
· We will practice at Mears Middle School or Dimond High School. We typically practice 3 nights per week.
· We have several coaches (many are “Bronze” Certified), 4 certified referees, some who just love to coach, some who are Dads, some who were wrestlers. Our head coach, Greg Shack is the 2009 coach for Dimond High School. All are committed to the sport of wrestling and to providing the best learning experience for our wrestlers.
· Our wrestlers learn to feel more confident, positive and responsible. They learn respect and good sportsmanship. Everything they learn through wrestling will carry over into other sports, school and to other areas of their lives.
· Please check the website periodically for updated information. Thanks for your interest.
Congratulations to Coach Greg Shack
