In the United Kingdom Coach Alan Hedges coached a Ladies College Team for three years and hed coached a Ladies Club team to the Regional Championship and gained promotion to the National League 1st Division

Alan began playing volleyball specializing as a middle hitter at the age of 16 while at Croesyceiliog School in Wales. He attended Southampton University for 3 years and Imperial College, London for 5 years, graduating with a PhD in Physics. While at University his college teams gained 3 English University Championships and 1 British University Championship. At the age of 21, Alan played for Wales in the British Commonwealth Championships.
During his student years, Alan spent 3 summers coaching at the World Volleyball Training Center in New York State which caters to kids aged 12 through 18. The head coach was always from Japan, but US Universities, Latin America and Europe were all well represented. It was here that he really learned about coaching and the progressions that can be used to teach young athletes.
After college, in the UK, Alan coached a Ladies College Team for 3 years and a Ladies Club Team for numerous years, which won the regional championship and gained promotion into the National League 1st Division.
Having moved to Pittsburgh Alan played on a USVBA team and coached a ladies USVBA team. However with deteriorating knees Alan stopped playing at a competitive level a few years ago and is now looking forward to transferring some of his enthusiasm and experience to this U13 team. Alan became IMPACT certified in January 2009.
