Stotesbury Cup 2012 Parking
New for 2012: Limited VIP parking on Kelly Drive for Saturday for $30. Limited number available. Click here: http://www.clickandpark.com/apps/events?rJ=QFc3SGeDHKa9qrA5mZQLO28C_zM5Kn4Xe3gMSL3V8FY=&rC=r17o
Parking along Kelly Drive is restricted during the regatta. Most parking will be on the plateau above, $15 per vehicle. ($5 per vehicle goes to the regatta. The remainder goes to the city and the vendor.) The Regatta provides free shuttle bus service from the parking areas to the venue and back again. There is also a well-maintained, family-friendly walking path thru the woods down to Kelly Drive and the regatta venue.
During the regatta, Kelly Drive will be closed to the general public from the start line to just below the Athlete's Village. Access to this area (which has a one-way traffic pattern, southbound from the Canoe Club) is limited to those with a Regatta Parking Pass.
Parking passes will be distributed to coaches in limited numbers at registration on Thursday afternoon at Lloyd Hall (1 for the smallest programs, 3 or 4 for the very large programs). Those with a Regatta Parking Pass will be allowed to parking diagonally on Kelly Drive. Those without a Regatta Parking Pass will be directed to Regatta Parking on the plateau above Kelly Drive. Each school should plan to distribute their allocated parking passes to vehicles bringing food into the venue. "Chuck wagons" will require separate parking passes, $50 each. If you are bringing a chuck wagon, you'll need two parking passes, one for the tow vehicle and one for the chuck wagon.
Entry to the venue thru the police barricades on Kelly Drive at Strawberry Mansion bridge will be restricted to vehicles with a valid Stotesbury parking pass and school buses. PSRA parking passes will not be honored.
All other parking will be on the grassy plateau above Kelly Drive. Cost will be $15 per vehicle. The regatta will provide complimentary shuttle bus service. Six school buses will be in constant rotation.
For those who would rather walk than wait for a shuttle bus, Ormiston Trail takes you from the parking on the plateau thru the woods down to the regatta venue. The 1/4 mile trail is in very good condition and suitable for young children and adults. Look for the balloons that mark the head of the trail at Reservoir Drive and Randolph Drive.
Parking on the grass on either side of Kelly Drive is absolutely forbidden. Violators will be ticketed by the Philadelphia Police. Parking is only permitted on the river side of Kelly Drive, with the exception of school buses, which must park on the opposite curbside as directed by Philadelphia police. Violators will be ticketed by the Philadelphia police.
Cars and vans should park diagonally at the river side curb.
Parking is permitted in the lot near the grandstands. The lot at the Canoe Club is reserved for volunteers and officials.

New Start Rules - Stotesbury Cup 2012
A new Traffic Light Start System will be used at the starting line for semi-finals and finals. It worked very well this past weekend for the Dad Vails. Please review the procedures below. If for some reason the light system were to fail, the start will be given using flags.
Starting Commands with Lights
(a) After the crews have been announced, the Starter shall start the race by:
- Calling out “Attention!”
- The Starter shall press a button to change the traffic lights from the neutral (unlit/black) position to red
- After a distinct and variable pause, the Starter shall give the starting command by pressing a button that shall at the same moment:
- Change the red light to green
- Make an audible signal through the loudspeakers
(b) If, after the red light has been illuminated, the Starter believes for any reason that the start should not occur, he or she shall call out, “As you were!” and change the lights from red to neutral. The Starter shall repeat the starting commands in their entirety, but may dispense with announcing the crews.
(c) Crews may leave the starting line when the light turns from red to green.
Here's a pdf version to give your crews: Traffic Light Start System
New Quick Start Rules
USRowing adopted new rules regarding the start of races over the winter. Most of you have raced under these new rules already this spring, but we encourage all athletes to review this summary and accompanying video
A summary:
Under the prior regulations governing starts, if a coxswain raised a hand to indicate that the crew was not ready, the start was delayed. Under the new rules, a raised hand will not be recognized and the official will begin the start process when he believes that boats are aligned, pointed and it is safe to begin.
During events that are difficult due to wind or current conditions, the officials will use a “quick start procedure,” that, in effect, replaces the old countdown start. With the new start sequence, the officials will announce the name of the crew, sequentially by lane, using a “deliberate cadence.” When the crews are named, the official will call “attention,” raise the red start flag, pause and then say “go” as the flag is dropped.
In a quick start situation, when the official sees that the crews are aligned, the command will be “quick start,” followed by, “attention,” raising the flag, then “go” as the flag is dropped.
In each start situation, crews signaling they are not ready will not be acknowledged. It will be up to the discretion of the official at the start to determine if a crew is not ready, in which case the official will slowly lower the flag and announce, “as you were.”

If you would like to submit an entry, please email me by Friday afternoon and bring the $20 entry fee on Sunday for collection.
VOLUNTEERS: Our assignments are listed below. Every school is assigned volunteer positions and participation is vital to get the races to run smoothly and on time. Please Please Please sign up to volunteer. The more volunteers, the easier to assign shifts. Since it is Mother's Day, what a nice present it would be for the gentlemen parents/brothers/cousins to volunteer for the assignments. (Hint - Hint)
Please sign up on Doodle.
PARKING: A PREPAID parking pass is required for ALL vehicles parking in the parking lot at the spectator side. The cost is $5.00 and will be sold at the Boathouse on Thursday, May 10th ONLY. Send money in an envelope with your rower so I can place the pass in it for you or be at Boathouse between 5-5:45pm. There will be additional parking sites with shuttles running to lake. See attachment for maps and below for more parking information.
EXTRA NOTE: Rowers are provided with water and gatorade at the tent site and a bottle of water for the bus after races. Rowers requiring additional beverages, should plan to pack their own in their bags. Also, rowers need to bring their own chair, towel or blanket to rest on. Rowers are also asked to clean up their eating area before leaving as well.
BELOW IS FROM ACRA regarding Sunday's race....
Good Evening, below you will find our request for volunteers and details for the Atlantic County Championships being held this Sunday May 13 at Lake Lenape.
PARKING
Spectator
Parking is available via prepaid parking pass at the Lake Lenape East spectator
park and, when that lot is full, at nearby the Wheaton Factory lot. Emergency
overflow parking is also available behind the old courthouse. See attached maps
for shuttle routes – jitneys, County vans and contracted school buses will all
be running at the County Championship regatta. Also we will have our annual cook
off at the counties again this year. Attach
you will find map outlining parking.
COOK OFF
Also we will have our annual cook off at the counties again this year. $20.00 per entry the winners (main course, dessert) win the total of the entry fees. It all goes back to you.
Lake Lenape Park rules do state, that no pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed.
VOLUNTEERS
In addition to our race day volunteers we also need volunteers to remove buoys immediately after racing. Below you find details outlined by Dan Jones, PLEASE reach out to Dan and let him know how your program which can be parents, family or friends and team members can help out.
Atlantic City
1 Parking lot attendant at Wheaton 8 am until 12. This can be split up into shifts
1 launch driver boat house side 945 till end. This can be split up by 2 people each having a shift 9:45 - 12 and 12 - the end
1 Parking lot attendant on the park side 7:30 am until 1, this can be split up into shifts
.
Call for Buoy Volunteers: At many venues, the association which runs the regattas pays an outside entity several thousand dollars to install and remove the racing lane buoys and stake boats. For the Lake Lenape regattas, this work is performed by parent volunteers, saving the costs which would otherwise have to be passed on to all of the area high schools. We need help for this weekend’s removal effort:
Sun, 5/13 immediately following the last race - Unclip 1,200 buoys, clip onto 2x4 storage beams and hoist into boathouse ceiling. Tow 6 stake boats to lighthouse beach, unhook pontoons from frames, carry into storage in the round building at the spectator park. Remove large orange and white marker buoys from the course and hoist to the ceiling of the smaller boathouse bay.
A couple volunteers from each of the area schools will go a long way in helping us be able to quickly get all 7 lines of buoys and 6 stake boats removed and stored. Meet at the boathouse for buoy removal or the beach for stake boat storage.
Good luck to all of your crews this weekend.

Info from SNJSRA
No more than 2 tents wide and 2 tents deep per school along the front lines. That's for 10x10 tents or a 20x20 space. No tents on the beach. You can set up more back where the rides used to be and other areas towards the rear. Please leave the playground area open for the little kids. This is not unlike the limitations you face at nationals and some other regattas. Not all schools are attending every regatta but every school is entitled to some water front space. Park opens at 7:30 AM for trailers. Please no early birds!!! Races start at 10 AM.
Play nice and share and everybody will get along.
Trailers and tow vehicles can NOT be at your tent site and MUST be moved to the rear left near the homes as your looking from the lake to the parking lot.
Parking should be adequate for the sprints in the normal parking area behind the spectator side. We will be blocking off more spots up front for handicapped parking. Tell your parents, if occupants of the vehicle have handicapped needs, please use the spots, if they have their mothers handicapped tag but are training for a marathon, park and walk like they should.
Parking incurs a $5 "Donation" This $5 goes to cover some of the expenses to run the regattas and keeps the dues paid by member schools to a minimum. There is no public funding other than dues from the schools and monies collected from the parking to run these regattas. Everybody working on the regatta is a true volunteer. Anybody that gives the parking people (or any other volunteer) abuse will be denied access or asked to leave. The park rangers are happy to assist us in any dispute.
Officials and limited coaching parking on the Boathouse side. NO spectator/parent parking on the boat house side. Cars dropping off kids or supplies on the boathouse side will be stopped at the entrance. The rowers will walk in and supplies will have to be walked in too--bring a hand truck if you need one for cases of water.
The lighthouse and bridge to the light house are permanently closed. Please stay off.
The catering hall deck is for officials only
Clean up your site and take your trash to the dumpster
Jitneys will again be the shuttle device between the boat house and spectator side
REMEMBER NO PARKING on the streets around the park. Unfortunately--CARS WILL BE TOWED by the township
Come out and enjoy the day. Spend some time with your children and hang with other parents that are going through the same things you are!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
On behalf of the Southern New Jersey Scholastic Rowing Association, I would like to thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation
