Amy Appelt grew up in Garden City, NY on Long Island - a hot bed for lacrosse. She attended Garden City High School where she played varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse for 4 years. While at Garden City, her lacrosse team won 3 straight state championships ! After a successful career at GCHS, she continued on to The University of Virginia. While at UVA she was a 4 time All American, 4 time ACC player of the year and 2 time UVA female athlete of the year.   In her freshman year she received freshman player of the year honors from Inside Lacrosse magazine, womenslacrosse.com as well as ACC player of the year.

In 2004 she was a part of the ACC, NCAA championship team at UVA and winner of the Tewaaraton Trophy ,Honda award winner as well as the ACC player of the year. In 2005, she was a finalist for the Tewaaraton award and on the runner up team in the NCAA championship. Shortly After College she was named to the 2005 World Cup training team and was an alternate for the World Cup. In the spring of 2006 she was named to the 25th NCAA Anniversary team. She has been a member of the US lacrosse team since 2002 and is currently on the 2009 USA team. In addition to playing for Team USA, she is currently on the Board of Governors and the athletes council at U.S Lacrosse.

Appelt spent the 2007 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia, helping to guide her alma mater to the NCAA title game, where the Cavaliers fell to Northwestern, 15-13. She has also coached X-Team, a national-based club squad, and has served as the director of teams and marketing for Bounce Entertainment, aiding high school lacrosse players in the college recruiting process and facilitating the growth of the sport in non-traditional areas such as Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, Washington and Michigan. In addition, she is a featured athlete for STX and Nike Lacrosse, helping promote the women’s product at lacrosse events such as clinics and camps.

 

She was named as an assistant coach for UMBC for the 2009-2010 season.
