The Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce that the City of Allentown is once again competing in the PetSafe Bark For Your Park contest to win $100,000 to build Allentown’s first dog park! Voting began May 1 and continues through August 1.
Allentown competed in the 2011 PetSafe contest and was selected out of more than 500 cities across the country to be one of the top 15 finalists. The city earned the distinction based on the fantastic input shown by the community during the first and second stages of the contest. This year, PetSafe has revised the contest to include two additional $25,000 prizes for “runner up” cities. The contest is broken up into two voting periods: from May 1 – June 13 followed by the selection of the top 15 finalist cities and a second voting period of June 15 – August 1.
The prize winners will be announced on August 3. “We are so proud and thankful for the support from the Allentown community,” said Department of Parks & Recreation Director Greg A. Weitzel. “The public’s effort during last year’s competition was fantastic, and we need the public’s help again this year. With their assistance, I believe Allentown has a great chance to win.”
Weitzel urges the public to vote at both www.barkforyourpark.com and www.facebook.com/petsafebrand. Voters can cast a ballot at each website once every 24 hours, so please vote early and vote often!
