Exciting News!

We are pleased to announce for this season that one of our dedicated coaches is Odalys Torres who is currently a starting pitcher for URI. She with be with us for the winter and summer season. She will be putting the players through rigorous training workouts and will expect that they are willing to work as hard as she does ie at the college level. We were lucky to get her at the end of last season and I got the opportunity to see first hand what she can give to the team and players. She is extremely dedicated and passionate at what she does and is a true inspiration to the entire team. We are very lucky and excited to have her this season.

This site is for team members to find all the latest news and information for Stars team. We hope you enjoy visiting the site and check back often. Feel free to contact the web master with any suggestions and problems with the site.

Welcome to the Sayreville Stars 16u News page. Thought the Sayreville Stars organization has been around for many years, our current team was formed in August, 2006 with eleven young ladies from the communities of: Carteret, Woodbridge, Ramsey, Millstone and North Brunswick. In our 2006 season, we were composed of eight freshman, two sophomores and one junior.

For the spring/summer of 2007 we will be participating in approximately nine Pony, ISA, USSSA, ASA and FAST tournaments.

Our winter workouts are conducted indoors at various professional facilities. Along with our experienced coaches, we also utilize a very successful college pitcher/athlete/trainer for winter training and summer coaching, and a well known professional trainer for private team lessons. Our indoor training emphasis is on batting, light fielding, and general physical and mental fitness.

We are planning a fall season 12 scrimages, 5 tournaments, 3 showcase

Please feel free to read our "team philosophy". We recently won the 2007 16u Wall Tournament Championship where we won seven straight games and mercy ruled in the final game.

We placed second in the .... Carlisle PA Pony 16u national qualifying tournament.

In our last tournament, we mercy ruled three out of four games, missing the mercy rule in the fourth game by one run due to a time limit. A 1st place finish was anticipated and not obtained due to weather. Great job Stars!
Our plans for the 2007- 2008 season are:
* Fall 12 scrimages, 5 tournaments, 3 showcase
* Fall, Spring and Winter (indoors) and Summer practice
* Spring scrimmages
* Summer 9 tournaments (18u and showcase)

Thank you for taking the time to read about us and we look forward to meeting you at the fields.

Team Philosophy

Competition
Stars softball is competitive, not recreation, softball. The coaching staff is committed to balancing competitiveness and maintaining a positive experience for all players. Although we will always play to win, it is not a "win at all cost" mentality. All players must understand that, unlike recreation softball, the manager does not guarantee minimum playing times.

Tournaments
The Stars team is a competitive travel team. As such, we will travel to where the competition is. It is our intent to schedule between eight and ten tournaments each summer season. The coaches will also schedule other weekend games. We expect that no more than two or three tournaments that will require an overnight stay during the season. These overnighters are family oriented outings.

Teamwork
We practice as a team and we play as a team. Therefore, we expect that all players will attend all games and as many practices as possible. To help in planning, practice schedules and game dates will be provided as far in advance as possible.

Involvement
The Stars is a volunteer organization. This organization relies on the support of the parents and families to run smoothly. If your daughter is selected to become a member of the Stars, you may be asked to car pool, fund raise and help with other tasks.

Communication
For the Stars to continue to be successful, your voice at the appropriate time and in the appropriate place is encouraged. Parent and player suggestions and ideas are important to the manager, the team, and to each player.

Positions
The coaching staff will make all player assignments based on the needs of the team. All players will earn their position.

Practices
Player and team performance will only improve with full team practices. Field time is difficult to schedule, which makes attending practice more important. If selected to play for the Stars please ensure your daughter attends as many practices as possible. The coaching staff suggests you try to arrive 10 minutes ahead of the practice time.
