 Good Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is playing fair, following the rules, treating others the way you’d like to be treated yourself. Good Sportsmanship has a positive effect on everyone around you. Win or lose, Good Sportsmanship promotes team success. Good Sportsmanship takes maturity and courage. In competition as in life you may not always win but by demonstrating Good Sportsmanship you will benefit your team. If you lose a game, congratulate your opponent. Accept the result. Work hard to improve yourself for the next game. If you win, be gracious and polite, letting the results speak for itself. Compliment your opponent for participating. If you are a coach, parent, or spectator, be courteous to the players on both sides equally. Be a role model. Be a fan, learning as much as you can about the game. Support an environment in which everyone can enjoy the game. Avoid threatening behavior or violence to settle disagreements. Cheer for your team, and applaud good plays on both sides. Have a positive attitude instead of a win-at-all-cost attitude. Be satisfied with the enjoyment of participation. Leaders are created from working through the struggles of competition together to benefit the group as a whole. The lessons of teamwork and Good Sportsmanship will serve you throughout your life. Work together, help each other, protect each other, do your best for each other, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
