Questions & Answers

When Does Football Begin?

Practices will begin on Monday, July 30, 2012, and will be held from 6PM to 8PM.  See more information below.

How Much Does It Cost?

There will be more information on cost for 2012 season.   This fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.  Payment must be made at the time of registration.  XYAA will accept cash, personal check, or money order.  A fee will be imposed for returned checks (insufficient funds).  Your child's registration will not be complete until payment is received in full.

All players are REQUIRED to participate in the fundraiser for the season as well.  If you would prefer to opt out of the fundraiser, you can pay an additional $60 at the time registration, in order to be exempt from participating in the fundraiser.  The opt out fee will only be accepted at the time of registration and is non-refundable.

XYAA does not intend to exclude players due to financial hardship.  Requests for payment plans will be considered on a case by case basis by the XYAA Board. Payment options will be available at registration through the treasurer.

Where Are Practices Held?

Practices are held at West Side Park in Xenia.  There is plenty of parking available for parents and portable restrooms are available.  Please be mindful of the signs along the street that do not permit parking along the side of the street.  All teams will practice at West Side Park throughout the season. Each grade level practices in a designated area at the field.

When & Where Do We Play Our Games?

The season starts August 25, 2012.  Games will continue for 8 weeks and are played throughout the 20 different communities in the league. Games are played on Saturdays or Sundays.  After the end of regular season (mid-August through mid-October), all teams participate in the WOJFC tournament.  The championship game is played in mid-November.

Xenia Weebucs typically has two teams for every grade level, a blue team and a white team.  These colors typically alternate home and away games. Based on registration numbers, a third team may be formed for a grade level.  The next color will be black.  The by-laws detail the splitting of teams based on grade level and color.

Home games are played at Xenia High School. Our home schedule is Bantam at 2pm; 3rd at 3:30pm; 4th at 5pm; 5th at 6:30pm; and 6th at 8pm. This is considered a "night schedule".

Away games may be played on either a "night schedule" or a "day schedule".  A day schedule begins with Bantam at 10am; 3rd at 11:30am; 4th at 1pm; 5th at 2:30pm; 6th at 4pm.

Other communities where games may be played include: Beavercreek, Centerville, Fairborn, Greenville, Huber Heights, Jamestown, Kettering, Lebanon, Mad River, Meadowdale, Miamisburg, Northmont, Springfield, Trotwood, Vandalia, West Carrolton, and Wilmington.

Football players are required to be at the games at least one hour prior to the start, in order to warm up and get ready for the game.

How Many Practices Per Week?

Pre-season practices are held 5 days per week, Monday through Friday from 6-8PM. Practice begins the last Monday in July.  This continues through the week prior to Labor Day.  After Labor Day, practices will be held 3 days a week from 6-8pm. Head coaches will determine what 3 days of the week your team will practice.

In the event of extreme heat or severe weather, practice may be cancelled.  A One Call Now will be made to alert you of a cancelled practice.  Please note that the One Call will be made at or around 5pm on the day of practice.  Please provide the best phone number to reach you at that time of day prior to practice.  The website will also have an announcement of cancelled practice.

Can I Request What Team I Would Like to be On?

No.  New players in the league will be drafted onto a team. Returning players will continue with the same color team through subsequent grade levels.  In the event that there are 3 teams for a grade level, and the next season, only 2 teams are needed, the division of the teams will be handled by the board and head coaches for those teams.  Weebucs follows the rules set by the WOJFC when handling these situation.

Can Siblings Play For The Same Color or Team?

Every effort is made to accommodate siblings on to the same side (blue or white).  If siblings are playing for the same grade, they will be kept together.   Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate requests for cousins, nephews, or friends to play on the same team or for the same color.

What Equipment Will My Child Receive?

XYAA will provide a game jersey, practice and game pants, all necessary pads, a helmet and a mouthpiece.  Your child will be fitted for equipment by our coaches.  A One Call Now will be sent out to notify players when equipment will be handed out.

What Else Will We Need to Buy for Our Child?

You will need to purchase football cleats. The shoes must have molded bottoms, not screw-ins. Athletic supporters with a hard plastic cup will also need to be purchased. Long black "all sports" socks will be included in the uniform and should be purchased for your child. Replacement mouthpieces are the players responsibility as well.  Weebucs will provide the first mouthpiece.  Mouthpieces must be colored.  Clear mouthpieces are not acceptable.

Will My Child Get Playing Time?

Yes. XYAA, in accordance with WOJFC rules, requires that every player have the opportunity to play a minimum of five (5) downs per half, including extra-point attempts, field goal attempts and punts. Player injury, illness or disciplinary action may affect the playing time rule.

What Else Do I Need to Do As a Parent?

XYAA is a volunteer-run organization.  Parents are REQUIRED to volunteer on game days at the home football field.  Help will be needed to work the entrance gates, concession stands, working chain gangs, field and bleacher clean up, and setting up and tearing down the field.  Your team mom will notify your team of the dates your team will be responsible for working at the field. If you opted out of fundraising during registration, this DOES NOT exempt you from helping at the football field. See the "handout" section of this website to print out a Volunteer Application.  All volunteers within XYAA must complete a volunteer application.

Are There Any Additional Fees?

Yes. All games (home & away) have a $2.00 entry fee per person.  Everyone is required to pay $2.00 upon entering the games. Even coaches and team mom’s must pay.  If you need to leave during the game and plan to return, you may request to have your hand stamped to avoid paying the entry fee upon return on the same day.

What Can I Do Before Practice Begins?

Register.  Refer to the “Football Registration” section of this website for more details on registration dates and times.  You will also need to gather important information to provide at registration.  Names and addresses of emergency contacts, your child’s physician and dentist.  You will also need to make 2 copies of your child’s original birth certificate.  These copies will be collected at registration.  Your registration will not be complete without the birth certificate.

Very Important Information About Physicals:

Physicals. Physicals MUST be completed before football players can practice. If they do not have their physical done before the first day of practice, they are welcome to watch practice, but cannot participate. This is a league rule, and must be followed by all participants.

Football players
must use the triplicate WOJFC physical form, which will be handed out at registration.  Your child’s physical must be performed in 2012.  Any physical forms completed by your physician in 2011 will not be accepted.  The triplicate WOJFC physical form cannot be photocopied nor faxed to your physician.  All three copies of this form must be completed by the physician completing the physical.

Practice Gear. For the first week of practice, please wear comfortable clothing for conditioning in the heat. Cleats must be worn for all practices. Once uniforms and pads are issued, pads must be worn for all practices going forward. Athletic supporters with hard plastic cups are also mandatory and if your child does not have one on, he cannot practice.   Your child must have a water bottle for all practices.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?

Yes.  Each player is required by the WOJFC to weigh-in before the start of football season.  The "weigh-in" takes place the Saturday before the Premiere Game in August.  Teams will be scheduled to weigh-in together.  Your child's coach will assist their team with weigh-ins.

You will need to provide transportation for your child to participate in practice and games.  Transportation is not provided.  Parents/guardians are expected to be in attendance at all games and practices to bring your child home.  Children should not be left behind after practice or games waiting for their ride home.  Please plan accordingly to have your child picked up promptly after practice or games.
