World Class Sports: Welcome

Welcome to the World Class Sports at Yale University

World Class Sports is the brainchild of Pam and John Stuper, both head coaches at Yale University.

Pam Stuper is the Head Field Hockey Coach who will be in her fifth season in the fall of 2009, after having served as an assistant for eight seasons. She is one of the most decorated players in US Field Hockey history, having won four national championships (three as a player at Old Dominion University and one as a coach at James Madison University), as well as being named a two-time All American. She was a member of the USA National Team for nine years winning a bronze medal at the 1994 World Cup. In 2004 she was named to the National Field Hockey Hall of Fame, the highest honor an American player can be accorded.

John Stuper has been the Head Coach of Yale Baseball for the past sixteen years, guiding the Bulldogs to two Ivy Championships. Prior to that he enjoyed a successful career as a player in the Major Leagues. He is best known for his time as a St Louis Cardinal, as he helped that club win the World Championship in 1982. His complete game 4-hitter in the 6th game (a 13-1 win) enabled the Redbirds to reach the 7th game, where they triumphed over the Milwaukee Brewers and became baseball’s champs. Sports Illustrated dubbed his performance in that crucial 6th game as one of the top ten performances by a rookie in the history of post season play.

World Class Sports Philosphy

World Class Sports camps are designed to develop young athletes into fundamentally sound players through individual instruction and drill work, as well as game play. Our camps are very "participatory" where both individual instruction and game playing are incorporated into the daily schedule to make it a great camp experience!

All players attending World Class Sports camps will learn how to develop their own athletic abilities in a positive, safe environment, ultimately preparing them to achieve their short and long term goals. Players will be expected to conduct themselves with class and under the rules of good sportsmanship.
