Rick Simpson – Villanova University Head Coach



Rick Simpson is in his ninth season as head coach of the Villanova Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Programs. While at Villanova, he has led a number of swimmers to NCAA final appearances, as well as multiple All-American honors This list includes 2000 U.S. Olympian Maddy Crippen and two of the nation's top distance swimmers, Becky Koch and Jenny Somerville.


Simpson came to the Main Line from Seton Hall University, where he headed up the Pirate Men's and Women's programs for three seasons. During his three-year tenure from 1997-2000, 75 percent of the school's swimming & diving records were broken. Prior to coaching the Pirates, he was the Assistant Coach at Germantown/Team Foxcatcher in 1992, Assistant Coach at United States Military Academy from 1992-1993, as well as Assistant and Head Coach at Rutgers University from 1993 to 1996.
During the summer of 1999, Simpson was named to the coaching staff of Team U.S.A. at the Second Military World Games in Zagreb, Croatia. The team consisted of several current and former world record holders and Olympians.

 


TIM LANE - Villanova University Assistant Coach

A native of Vincentia, Australia, Tim Lane comes into the Villanova swimming program as an assistant coach after spending one year as a student coach at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Tim specializes in sprint and middle distance freestyle, as well as bringing with him an expertise in the area of swimming-specific strength and conditioning. Tim will also head the recruiting of International student Athletes.

In his time as a student assistant at University of North Carolina Wilmington, Tim helped in all aspects of the program, including helping coach the men to their seventh Colonial Athletic Association title, and coordinating and implementing the strength and conditioning and dry-land program for both the men's and women's teams. Tim also gained valuable experience in his native homeland of Australia, where he swam and coached under Shane Arnold and Kerry Saunders at the Hunter swimming club, one of the most successful programs in Australia. He was also coached by the late Eric Arnold at the Hunter club.

After transferring from Newcastle University, Australia, in 2005, Lane earned his Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from University of North Carolina Wilmington and graduated magna cum laude. As an athlete, Lane completed his two years of NCAA eligibility for the Seahawks, earning all-CAA honors both years, winning two CAA team titles, and captaining the men to their 6th straight title in 2007. Lane was also an Olympic Trials qualifier in Australia in both 2004 and 2008.

Lane currently resides in Wynnewood, Pa.



Abby Delia - Villanova University Assistant Coach

 

Abby Delia completed her first season as the assistant coach of men's and women's swimming from 2007-08.

Delia specializes in distance stroke and Individual Medley and designs workouts for the athletes. She also recruits national level student athletes. In addition, she coaches and designs the team practices for the Villanova Masters Swim Team.

Previous to her time at Villanova Delia worked at the University of Chicago as the Assistant Men's and Women's swimming coach and the Assistant Aquatics Director. She coached six NCAA Provisional Qualifying Swimmers and helped in the recruitment of student athletes. Delia also co-head coached the University of Chicago Maters Swim Team, designing workout plans.

Delia earned her masters in Economics from the University of Buffalo in 2006. Her undergraduate work was also done at the University of Buffalo receiving a Bachelors Degree in Economics and graduated Cum Laude in 2004. As an athlete she was a four year Division I Varsity Swim Team Member and captain and the recipient of the Mid-American Conference Commissioner's Award.

Delia resides in Wayne, Pa



 

Tara Simpson - Sports Nutrition Consultant



Ms. Simpson will be on hand each week to provide critical feedback and information in the area of sport nutrition. Tara is a former collegiate swimmer and currently a national age group triathlete. Professionally, she is a partner and director of client care with Nutritional Health Systems, LP. At NHS, Tara consults with a variety of clients addressing all areas of nutrition including sports nutrition.
