The Westbury baseball team has operated under the radar for most of the season, but the Rebels could be one of the favorites in District 21-4A.

Westbury head coach Derrick Taylor has a talented squad that could challenge Waltrip and Davis for the league title.

“I really love this team,” Taylor said. “Our team unity is great. The kids are all outstanding student-athletes. It’s been a lot of fun coaching them.”

The Rebels (4-2, 2-0) dropped all four games in the Houston Christian Baseball Classic last month, but Westbury crushed District 21-4A foes Yates and Reagan, winning by respective scores of 17-0 and 8-3.

Senior Jeffrey Davidoff, a transfer from Lamar, has been a nice addition. Davidoff, a shortstop/pitcher, leads the Rebels with a .389 average and has emerged as Westbury’s main closer.

Senior left-hander Tyler Keever is the Rebels’ No. 1 pitcher and continues to improve with every start.

Other standouts include senior right fielder/pitcher Marcus Haynes, junior second baseman/pitcher Jake Freudenberger and freshman third baseman/pitcher Matthew Harding.

All eyes will be on Westbury when the Rebels face Davis at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Knoblauch Field.

The Rebels are making some noise!  Come out and support your team.
