See You in Fall Ball

First of all Congratulations to ALL of the players that participated on teams in the West Sacramento Little League this year:

We are ALL Proud of EVERY one of you.

For trying your best, even when discouraged.  As you all grow up each year and learn a little more about baseball, develop better skills, and improve as players, your parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and friends are so proud of you.  with each game your skills get a little better.  As you all look back on your year played in little league this year, remember how you started your first few practices, and your first game.  then compare yourself to your last game.  Did you grow as a player? Did you become a better hitter, fielder, pitcher, catcher, runner?  Did you learn what to do in more baseball situations?  Did you make some new friends?  Did you learn more about teamwork and sportsmanship? What it takes to play together as a team and win or lose to be proud that you played your best?  I think all of you can answer YES to one or more of these questions.  If you can then we as adults who volunteered our time for you are happy that we had a chance to enrich your lives.   From your parents who brought you to every practice and game, bought you that new glove or bat that you wanted, to the teachers that had to try to teach you school things on your game days when you were so excited for that final bell to ring so you could put on that uniform and get out on the field and play some baseball, to the coaches and managers who spent their time this year to teach you the skills you needed to do your best, to the parents who volunteered their time to work in the snack bar to give you that bag of popcorn or rainbow sno-cone after your game, to the board members who volunteered numerous hours to organize, plan, and work to make sure you had nice fields to play on, good umpires to call your games, make sure you were safe out on the field.  All of these adults who do these things, do it all for you, the players.   To see you all grow each year is our reward for our committment.

Tonight I spent the evening in the press box keeping the score book and announcing my son's last league game.  I look back on that first practice over on the coach pitch field and recognized all the growth I have seen in my son.

So if you young players get discouraged and don't feel you are good enough to play baseball, Don't give up, just do your best and have fun, you will continually get better and better at baseball.  If you end your season better than you started it, then you have a great reason to be proud of your accomplishments.

I urge all of you to sign up for Fall Ball.  It is a great way to improve your playing ability.  It is much more instructional and easy going than the spring season.  You get to play other little league teams.  You get a chance to play those positions you didn't get a chance to play much.  There is a link on this page to register for Fall Ball.

On behalf of the entire board of directors

I thank you all for your participation in Little League this year.

David Kamminga,

Minister of Information, Web"master", Voice of West Sacramento Little League

Champion Teams

Tonight the AAA Bats versed the AAA Rivercats and the Major Dodgers versed the Major Cardinals

All 4 teams played their best and provided all of the fans with a fantastic baseball experience.

The Champion of the AAA Division is the Rivercats in a 7-4 Victory over the Bats with 2 homeruns. One by Ryan Walstad and one by Michael Lamoureaux

Congratulations to the AAA Rivercats!

On the Major Field both pitchers (Alex Dodd and Quinn Connolly) went the distance and provided all the fans with a very close defensive game. The winner with a score of 3-2 The Cardinals advance to the District 6 TOC.

A Homerun by Kristian Heptner off of a pitch by Quinn Connolly kept the game very exciting.

The District 6 TOC is Hosted by West Sacramento Little League this year.

It Starts June 20th.

We are looking for parents to help work at the game, come out and work in the Snack Bar, Help get the field ready to play, Keep Score, Pitch Count.  There is always plenty to do at a tournament, You can also get those hours needed for your work deposit by helping out.

Once again congratulations to the AAA Rivercats the 2009 AAA Champions

and the Cardinals the 2009 Major Division Champions and Advancing to the TOC

Come out and help put the TOC tournament on and support the Cardinals.

Become a Little League Sponsor

West Sacramento Little League has been serving the youth of the community since 1954. We are a non-profit organization operated completely by volunteers. While it is often said that baseball is declining in popularity among our nation’s youth that is certainly not the case here in West Sacramento. The number of children playing in our league has grown steadily in recent years, and with more homes being built in our city we are actively planning for an even greater number of little leaguers in the near future. However, to do this important work we need your help. Every year the cost of operating a Little League program rises. Unlike some other sports, the cost of baseball equipment and facilities is substantial. Many families in our community cannot afford the registration fee for their children. Of course, these are the very children that we need to encourage to play. West Sacramento Little League does not want to discourage these young people from participating. That’s why we are asking for your help. If you have been a sponsor, we are urging you to do so again this year. It is a very worthwhile way to contribute to the youth of our community. The sponsorship fee for the 2007 season is $200.00. If it is not necessary that the name of your business appear on a team jersey, please check the appropriate box so that we can accommodate more sponsors. We assure you that, as in the past, all of our generous sponsors will be recognized at our Opening Day ceremonies on March 17th and in our monthly newsletter that is mailed to all parents with children in the league. If you would like to contribute to our efforts but do not wish to be a team sponsor, you may make a contribution in a greater or lesser amount as indicated on the attached form. Please respond no later than February 5th, 2007, so that we can make the appropriate arrangements in placing sponsors names on uniforms for the upcoming season. With the River Cats baseball going strong, West Sacramento continues to be a baseball hotbed. Help us keep that fire burning with our children. Catch the spirit and join the West Sacramento Little League team today. Sincerely, John Andreotti WSLL, Auxiliary Chairperson

Memo from West Sacramento Police Department

The following is a letter from the West Sacramento Police Department regarding parking at Memorial Park and in the surrounding residential neighborhood.  Please note that the WSLL Board fully supports WSPD and requests that all participants at the park abide by local parking laws.

M E M O R A N D U M

To:              West Sacramento Little League @ Memorial Park
From:          West Sacramento Police Department

It has been recently brought to my attention there are reoccurring parking violations around Memorial Park.  I fully understand parking is a rare commodity in the area but never the less we all need to comply and do our best to make sure the park is an enjoyable place to both visit and live around.

I am in the process of communicating with the traffic/engineering department to come up with a solution to better mark and post areas of NO Parking and/or Handicap Parking.

I have also asked police officers and parking enforcement officers to take more of a "Zero Tolerance" in issuing citations to those drivers who park their vehicles in direct violation of local laws or in areas that are clearly posted or marked.

We all want to enjoy the park and the memories the games leave us with but a parking ticket or an injured child or adult for that matter is not part of the plan.

What I'm asking, if you haven't guessed already, is to let your board members, coaches, players, family and friends know that when they come to the park enjoy what it has to give but before they leave their vehicle make sure that it is legally parked.  Also due to limited parking in the area they may have to start their experience with a little walk.

Thanks for listening,

Trent Tyler
Traffic Sergeant
