ABOUT US
We are located in London, Ontario, Canada, where our home ice is Kinsmen Arena, off Wharncliffe Road.

The 'West London Minor Hockey Association' is a member of Greater London Hockey Association (GLHA).
The GLHA Board is comprised of; each associations President, the FCHL Chair, the CHL Chair, the Technical Director and the Director at Large.
All authority of the GLHA resides with and is exercised by their Board. The Board is, in general, responsible for all aspects of the hockey program, for establishing the strategic and policy goals of the GLHA and to ensure that all it's By-Laws, rules and policies are administered fairly and equitably and where necessary to adjudicate and resolve disputes.

All players in the Association are affiliated with Hockey Canada (H.C.) and will conform to player categories as established by the constitution of H.C.

We are a house league association that forms both house league and minor development teams. The CHL (Community Hockey League) teams play within the city and amongst the other five associations under the GLHA. The minor development (FCHL - Forest City Hockey League) teams play within the city and amongst the other associations under the GLHA. For the 2009-2010 season we are piloting Tier1 (Atom to Midget) playing within the Alliance Seeded League. You can read more about this under the FCHL – Forest City tab. Some of the Tier 2 divisions within the FCHL also travel to Sarnia, Woodstock and Stratford.

To register with us you MUST live within our boundaries as established by the GLHA (Thames River to the north, Andover Drive/Beachwood to the east, Southdale Road to the south, and city limits to the west.) If you are not within our area check the GLHA website (find it under or Links tab) for the boundaries of the other associations to see where you belong.
Most likely:
North: Oakridge (GLHA / Alliance)
South: Lambeth (OMHA)
West: Mount Brydges (OMHA)
East: South Southeast or LMHA (GLHA / Alliance)

  • All Forest City teams have a carded (certified) coach on the bench and the mandate for our house league teams is to encourage the coaches to get their certification.

  • All players at the beginning level of body checking will participate in the GLHA city-wide body checking clinic. There is no charge for this.

  • The 5 GLHA Associations abide by the Boundary Agreement, registering players within their own areas.

  • Each association offers at least 20 or more games in the regular season, plus playoffs, and city or division championships.

  • GLHA operates a “full” season of hockey with all players participating past mid-March.

    WHAT AGES CAN REGISTER?
Players from ages 5 to 17 can register with us to play within their age appropriate division as listed below.
Each year we get a few 4 year olds who are ready for hockey, and they may register within the 5-6 year old Tyke group. Remember this is hockey, not learn to skate.

    Age Division
    5, 6 Tyke
    7, 8 Minor Novice / Novice
    9, 10 Minor Atom / Atom
    11, 12 Minor Peewee / Peewee
    13, 14 Minor Bantam / Bantam
    15, 16, 17 Minor Midget / Midget

CAN I REGISTER MY CHILD IN A DIFFERENT AGE GROUP?
No. Players are to be registered within their age group. All players go through our evaluation process in the fall and in the very rare case a child may be moved down a division but this is governed by CHL rules that will only allow a very small % of novice to move down to tyke.

    DO YOU HAVE BODY CHECKING?
Body checking is as per the following chart:
    Division CHL MD-FCHL
    Tyke No checking n/a
Minor Novice & Novice No checking No checking
Minor Atom & Atom No checking No checking
Minor Peewee & Peewee No checking Checking
Minor Bantam & Bantam No checking Checking
Minor Midget & Midget No checking Checking

    • Mandatory checking clinics are run for those players who will require it. Generally this will be for players who are trying out for MD-FCHL who have not had body-checking previously.

WHEN DO THE TRYOUTS AND EVALUATIONS BEGIN?
Forest City (MD) tryouts will begin in August, due to this years seeded pilot. House League (CHL) evaluations begin late September. You will be notified by email of all times and locations and the information is always posted on this website. Keep an eye on the site.

HOW DO THE TRYOUTS AND EVALUATIONS WORK?

    • If your player has indicated that they are interested in MD/FCHL they are required to begin with the Tier 1 tryouts. Changes to support this seasons pilot can be reviewed under the FCHL – Forest City tab.

      • Tier 1: made up of those players who have been successful at the level 1 tryouts. This is the level that anyone who has signed up for FCHL tryouts starts at when coming out for tryouts. Players who are not successful at the Tier 1 tryouts proceed to the Tier 2 tryouts.

      • Tier 2: made up of those players who have been successful at the level 2 tryouts. Players who are not successful at the Tier 2 tryouts proceed to the house league evaluations.

    • Those players who do not make the above teams OR those who selected No beside the FCHL tryout question at registration are evaluated and based on their abilities are formed into teams under the CHL or House League structure.

Note: The number of teams at any given level is dependent on the abilities and number of registrants.
Due to the ratio of goalies and number of players at several levels we must track registrations very closely and may have to place players on a waiting list. back to top

WHEN DO THEY PLAY AND PRACTICE?
Game and practice times are not always consistent. Each year it depends on our registration numbers as well as the ice times we receive from the city. For the past several years most Minor Midget and Midget games have been held Sunday nights with a sprinkling of weeknight games. The hope is that most House League times, games and practices, are on Saturdays and Sundays. back to top

    HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?
The playing season runs from generally Oct to March. The seeded teams will begin late September. MD tryouts start in August with HL evaluations following close behind in September to October. Depending on a team's performance in the season they could be playing in provincial finals into early April. back to top

    WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?
    Equipment List:
    • CSA approved Helmet with face cage (clear or wire)

    • neck protector

    • mouth guard (no longer mandatory but highly recommended)

WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT TYKE?
    • Our intention is to focus on the basics with our Tyke program.

    • Development is the focus at the start of the season with divisions/teams formed later and based on the player’s ability.

    • Tyke games are played amongst the teams within our association and generally begin a little later in the season.

    • There will be every attempt to set the tyke ice times to make them consistent.

    • Game sweaters are sponsored by Tim Horton's.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT MINOR MIDGET/MIDGET?
    • ‘Minor Midget’ is made up of 15 year olds and ‘Midget’ is made up of 16 and 17 year olds.

    • Starting with the 2008-2009 season Minor Midget and Midget are being treated as the rest of the divisions where FCHL will be the 1 and 2 teams and CHL will be made up of the remaining players.
Due to the ratio of goalies and number of players at the Midget level we must track registrations very closely and may have to place players on a wait list. back to top

    WHEN IS REGISTRATION?
For the past several years, registration has started mid to late June allowing us the necessary time to produce convener lists and prepare for tryouts and evaluations in the late summer / fall. Watch the website for registration dates as they are posted as soon as they are set. back to top

    WHAT DOES IT COST?
Once fees are set for a given season they are published on this website.   Each season fees are subject to change based on increases in ice costs, insurance costs and the cost of officials.

Please refer to the ‘REGISTRATION’ tab and find the most recent seasons registration fees for an idea of what the costs are.

In addition to registration the following fees are also possible depending on your choices:
MD Tryout Fee: for Minor Novice to Midget divisions for those players wishing to tryout for MD (FCHL).
MD Surcharge or Up charge: for those Minor Novice to Midget players who are successful in their bid for a spot on an MD team.
Team Account: once they are formed, many teams will also collect funds for an account to cover costs such as tournaments, additional ice time, referees for exhibition games, year end team parties etc. back to top

The final step to accept registration is a manual one completed by the registrar. This work is not done daily, it is generally done on weekends. I HAVE LEFT PHONE MESSAGES AND NO ONE HAS RETURNED MY CALL.
The vast majority of our volunteers work for a living. Phone calls and emails are generally returned in the evenings or on weekends. Did you leave a phone number where you can be reached in the evening or weekend? In a few cases the numbers that have been left have been for work so unless you work evenings you would be best to leave a phone number where you can be reached in the evening. back to top

WHO DO I CONTACT WITH OTHER QUESTIONS I HAVE?
Once teams are in place there is a normal protocol to be followed regarding most questions and concerns you may have. You should start with your coach, who should escalate if necessary to the convener, then to the director etc… However, many questions not of that nature may be directed as noted below
