Monday, July 27 West Columbia State Tournament Bound West Columbia In State Tournament West Columbia defeated Inman in 3 straight games to advance to the State Tournament in Spartanburg at Duncan Park. Play begins 7/29/09 at 9:30 AM. West Columbia is the #1 upper state seed and will play the #4 lower state seed in game 1. It now appears that West Columbia will play Conway on 7/29/09 at 9:30 AM. Check out Sumter's website www.P-15.com for brackets, scores andgame times. Directions to Duncan Park are under Locations of this website. It is about 1hr and 35 min drive from Airport High School. Come support your Team at the Tournament. Sunday, July 19 West Columbia Advances to Second Round of State Playoffs West Columbia Advances to Second Round of State Playoffs West Columbia will host Inman Monday July 20, 2009 at Airport High beginning at 7 PM. WC won the best of five series with Lancaster 3 games to 2 to advance to the second round. WC can win the second round with your support so come out to the games and bring your family friends and neighbors and enjoy some exciting American Legion Baseball. See you at the games.

Tuesday, May 12 WEST COLUMBIA POST 79 HAS IT'S OWN DOMAIN NAME We now have our own domain name, wcpost79.com. You can now enter our website by typing wcpost79.com. We know this will make it easier for you to visit our site and hope you will visit it often. Saturday, April 25 Orangeburg Post 4 Joins Columbia League 8 Orangeburg Post 4 will join Columbia League 8 for 2009 season. This will give us 7 teams in League 8. Also new this year 4 teams from Columbia League 8 will make the playoffs. The 4th place team will be the 3rd place team for League 7. We will provide more information on this after our League meeting in May. Wednesday, May 21 5/30/08 Lexington Game Date Change Please note that the 5/30/08 Lexington game has been changed to 5/29/08 at Lexington due to Airport, BC and Swansea graduation. Monday, May 19 Game Date Change Note that the game with Newberry scheduled for 6/18/08 at Newberry has been changed to 6/19/08 at Newberry. Tuesday, May 1 2008 ANNUAL GRAND SLAM GOLF TOURNAMENT The 2008 Annual Grand Slam Golf Tournament will be held May 22, 2008 at Hidden Valley Country Club in Gaston, S. C. There will be a 1:00 PM shotgun start. Entry fee is $260.00 for a four-man team or $65.00 per person. There will be many prizes and a meal catered by Shealy's Bar-B-Q. Tuesday, May 13 2008 Tryouts Begin The 2008 tryouts began tonite 5/13/0 8 at Airport High. Tryouts will continue Wed. 5/14/08 at 7 PM at Airport High. Tryouts will be conducted through next week. Thursday, May 10 Manning Scrimmage Game 5/11/07 W. C. will play it's first scrimmage game of the 2007 Season Friday May 11, 2007 at Airport High. Manning will come to War Eagle field to play W. C. at 7:30 PM. Manning is always one of the better teams in the state and should give us a very good idea of what we need to work on. Plan to attend and enjoy some fine baseball. There will not be a canteen for this game. Sunday, May 20 Post 79 is 2-0 in Scrimmage Games in 2007 W. C. Post 79 is 2-0 in scrimmage games with Manning and Orangeburg. Post 79 defeated Manning 4-2 at Airport High. W. C. traveled to Orangeburg's Mirmow Field to scrimmage Orangeburg Post 4. W. C. defeated Orangeburg 7-6. W. C. got off to a 3-0 lead and then every time Orangeburg scored W. C. answered back. W. C.'s next scrimmage will be with Sumter Post 15 at Joe Riley Park in Sumter on Tues. 5/22/07 at 7:00 PM. For directions to Joe Riley Park see Locations. Saturday, February 16 2008 W. C. Post 79 Season The 2008 Season will begin May27 and end July 5, 2008. The playoffs will begin following the regular season. The top 3 teams from the Columbia League will make the playoffs. Cayce Post 130 will not field a team in 2008. This means that players from BC and Airport will tryout for the W. C. Team. Newberry will come into the league to replace Cayce. Newberry will play their home games at Newberry High School field. The 2008 finals will be in Florence and the Regional will be in Shelby NC. The 2008 World Series will also be in Shelby.
Tuesday, May 13 WC TO PLAY 2 SCRIMMAGE GAMES THIS WEEK WC will play 2 scrimmage games this week. The first one will be Thursday 5/15/08 at Airport High against Manning, game time is 7 PM. The second one will be Friday 5/16/08 at Airport High at 7 PM against Orangeburg.
The 2005 Grand Slam Golf Tournament was held at Hidden Valley Country Club on May 18, 2005. Seventy plus golfers played in the tournament and all had a great time. Dr. Cohen's team won again this year with a score of 52, can anyone beat them. William Chick American Legion District 10 Adjutant and his wife Connie also played this year. Mr. Chick won the closest to the pin contest on hole #4. After they finished play the teams were served a Bar-B-Que meal from Hudson's Bar-B-Que. For more photo's check the Albums Page. |
