Welcome Letter from Steve Willingham
WARRIORS WRESTLING CLUB
Welcome
Warrior Families,
We are entering our 38th wrestling season and are excited to have
you as part of the 2012-2013 Warriors Wrestling Team. For the last 37 years the Warriors have been
committed to bringing a high quality of youth wrestling to Carroll County. This
letter will outline some important dates and reminders that you and your son
will need to know for the season. So please mark your calendars now, so you don’t
forget. We always have the latest up to date
information throughout the season on our website www.warriorswrestling.com so add it
to your list of favorites.
We again will offer wrestling at the clinic, recreation, and competitive levels. Our wrestling clinic program is for 4 – 5
year olds and runs one day a week with no competitions. Practices for recreation teams will be two
days a week with matches on the weekend, while travel teams practice three
nights a week. The practices will be
held at South Carroll, Century, or Liberty High Schools 6:30 – 8pm starting in
November and ending in February or early March. Your son will need
wrestling shoes and headgear for practices and matches. They will also need Warrior
team shorts for competition. The shorts
and headgear will be available for purchase at registration and before the
season starts. We will also have a shoe
swap available at registration and the parents meeting, so bring in your used
shoes.
Wrestling begins on Monday, November 5th
at 6pm with the parents meeting, wrestler weigh-in and evaluation at Century
High School in the cafeteria. All
wrestlers new and returning will be wrestling on this night, so they should
have their shoes and workout gear. This
is a mandatory meeting that you and your son must attend. At this meeting you will need a copy of his
birth certificate (if you are new) and any spirit wear forms with money. If you would personally like to sponsor the
Warriors Wrestling Program or know of a business that maybe interested please
see me or Sue Scott at the meeting. Team
sponsorships vary in price and may include a plaque, the company name on the
team banner and their link on our website.
If your son is selected for one of our travel teams there is a $75 travel fee
for the additional tournaments. Starting
this year travel wrestlers will now wear black shorts as part of their
uniform. Practices for all teams begin
on the week of November 12th.
If you are interested in coaching please respond via e-mail.
Thanks, Steve Willingham

Since 1975, the Warriors Wrestling program has been training boys and developing them into young men athletes through the sport of wrestling. Wayne Reisburg started the program in 1975 and it was originally called the Freedom Optimist Wrestling program. Our regular season runs from November to March, with wrestling training at South Carroll, Century, and Liberty High Schools. The Warriors Wrestling program is coordinated and coached by former South Carroll state runner-up Steve Willingham. Coach Willingham wrestled for Coach Reisburg in those early years of the program. The Warriors Wrestling program over the years has developed a number of Maryland State Champions, state place winners, and collegiate wrestlers.
