United take Championship in Bethesda over strong Annandale VA squad 3-0

The United punched their ticket to the finals after winning their first two games over Bethesda and the Ukrainian Nationals.  In the group stage the goal scoring was started by Chris Black.  Danny Trodden and Matt Gilbert produced two highlight goals vs the Ukrainians. There was solid defense along with stellar performances by keeper Austin Brotman in the group stage.

In the final vs a stong Annandale VA squad the United posted a strong game all around with Brotman making several key stops when the game was still in doubt. The final was played with regulation 40 minute halves. Wittemann broke the ice in the first half on a nice left-footed finish following a cross from Andy Schmeck working off a nice combo with brother Steve. It was a tight game with both teams having their chances. Matt Hull ripped a 20 yarder off the pipe which would have given the United the cushion they were looking for. Halfway through the second the United tallied again to give the boys some breathing room. Connor Stacks' sealed the deal with a blast off an attempted clear from just outside the box.

Great start to the 2010-2011 winter/spring season!
