WINTER PARK TIGERS: Michael Grady Memorium

Grady
Wednesday, July 8

Dear Pop Warner Family, Extremely sad news to report: Mike Grady a longtime coach, volunteer, dad, husband and all around family man died a hero’s death over the weekend.  The family was on vacation on North Carolina.  The family went on a hike.  The hike took the family through an area with a water fall.  Recent rains meant the current was much stronger than usual.  During the hike Austin ran into trouble on extremely sharp and slippery rocks, He was overwhelmed by the water and was pulled under. Mike seeing his son in peril, has only 1 thought, get Austin free and too safety. Mike jumped in and went to his son's rescue. During the rescue, Mike's leg became wedged between some rocks under the rapids. With his leg most likely cut, torn and broken, he was able to get enough leverage to push Austin up above the water line and to the safety of his mother and others on the edge of the waterfall.  Austin was seriously injured but was pulled to safety. Mike was unable to free himself from the rocks below him and ultimately drowned. He lost his life saving his own son's. Austin is recovering and will be physically fine.  Mike Grady is survived by; Lisa his wife & two son's; Austin and Tyler. Mike was an outstanding example of what a father should be to his sons ( or daughters). Mike understood the real purpose of life and family. He lived each day with his family as his primary purpose. He was a great father and a great husband. As I become aware of the details of the wake and funeral I will pass them along. Please say a prayer for Mike, Lisa, Austin & Tyler.
