GENERALS SWEEP WEST VIRGINIA TECH WITH 4-0 WIN


         LEXINGTON, Va. --
         Washington and Lee took both games from
         Bryan Mulhern (2-0), throws 4-0 shutout, 2-2 with double
the Visiting Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech, an NCAA Division II Program Saturday by scores of 12-7 and 4-0. Junior pitchers Mike Wert and Bryan Mulhern both upped their records to 2-0, as the Generals completed a weekend sweep to improve their record to 8-2.


             In the first game, Wert gave up 7 runs in 7 innings, while striking out 3, and walking 2. Senior Brian Gladysz continued his hitting tear, with a homerun and 2 RBIs in 2 official at bats. Junior left fielder Dan KageyDan Kagey 3-3, 3 runs was 3-3, scoring 3 runs, while Sophomore catcher Zach Bausch added to his team leading batting average going 2-3, scoring 3 runs with 4 RBIs, and Senior Michael Hanson kept pace going 2-4. Base hits were also added by Junior Bryan Mulhern and Sophomores Adam Bullock and Chris Chaplin.


             Junior pitcher (catcher and DH) Bryan Mulhern threw W&L's first shutout of 2003, allowing only 4 hits while striking out 4 with no walks over 7 innings. Mulhern also provided the offense for the Generals, along with Senior centerfielder Bobby Michael Hanson, W&L's all time stolen base leaderLittlehale, as they each collected 2 of the Generals 4 hits. Mulhern doubled scoring Littlehale in the first inning. Senior Michael Hanson became W&L's career leader in stolen bases, swiping his 41st in the first inning.
