GENERALS TAME HAMPDEN-SYDNEY TIGERS 12 -1


         LEXINGTON, Va. --
         The Generals swept a Brian Gladysz, 7-9, double, 4 RBIsdoubleheader from Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at Cap’n Dick Smith Field. winning the first game 12-1 and the second 6-2. Ahead 2-0, the Generals added five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-0 advantage over the Tigers in Game 1. W&L then added one, two and two runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings respectively, as it took advantage of five Tigers’ errors.


      Junior pitcher Peter Dean went the distance for the Generals, allowing four hits and one run. He surrendered two walks and struck out six, improving to 2-1 on the season. Offensively, W&L was powered by Senior first baseman Brian Gladysz, who went 7-for-9 with four RBIs, and a double, on the day
      
      Zach Bausch, 3-4, homerun, 3 runs, 2 RBIs
while Sophomore catcher/DH Zach Bausch had three hits in four at-bats, three runs, and two RBIs. Bausch led off the 4th inning of the second game with a home run in the to left-center and senior shortstop Michael Hanson plated Sophomore Adam Bullock, who doubled, with a fielder’s choice. Hanson then stole the 40th base of his career, tying the W&L career mark, and scored on Junior second baseman Austin Allain’s single.


   

W&L added a run apiece in the sixth and eighth inning to give junior pitcher Dan Kagey some breathing room. Kagey (2-1) went eight innings to pick up the win, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked three and had nine strike outs. Freshman Scott Gosselink also doubled for the Generals.
