PLANS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON!
Our house
program is made up of kids of many ages, from 3 on up. The group you
will be looking at for your son will consist of kids in the age range
of 3 - 8, most or all of whom are first time to hockey. We are also
putting together a house program for those older kids that are new to
hockey. Some of these kids will have done ice time before, whether in
learn to skate, tot hockey or or summer house program, and some of them
will be new to skating also. Our program is designed to help kids of
all ages and abilities to progress at their pace in an environment of
others at their same level. Our coaches work to break the kids into
groups on the ice according to where they are at in their learning
stage. Each child is worked with at their own level and encouraged to
progress at their pace with a group that is working on the same things
they are working on. What this means to you and your player is that he
will not be with a group of kids that are just learning to skate and he
will not be with a group of kids that are working on skills he hasn't
quite reached, he will be working with a group of kids that are at the
same point in learning that he is.
We work to keep a low child/adult ratio on the ice as much as we can to
allow each child the individual attention they need and deserve. Our
coaches focus on the core skills of hockey and the foundation to the
next level, and while helping each child gain what they need for the
next step in the sport, allowing them to still have fun on the ice
while learning.
I will be looking into getting in touch with other associations some
time in the December January area to schedule some fun games for the
kids as well. This will allow them to play the game of hockey with
other kids; kids that are at the same level of play as they are also.
We are also talking of forming a Mite C team out of a core group of our
in-house kids that seem to be ready for that level of play. This,
however, will take place I believe in December, after the kids have had
a chance to practice and learn more as a group. December is usually the
time that the Mite C teams start scheduling their games. At that time
our coaches will talk to families about this and give families the
option of having their child play at this level if the coaches believe
they are ready for it.
In the end, both groups, the in-house and Mite C group will continue to
practice together, learning and gaining from eachother, and both groups
will have game time scheduled come the end of 2007 beginning of 2008.
Keep in mind, skating is the main key to playing hockey, and a player
can never skate too much. I am, however, happy to say that throughout
our summer program I have seen a lot of improvement and skills gained
by our players. It's exciting to see our house kids skating backwards,
and beginning their stick handling skills.
In House Coverage
Coach Novak and Coach Gerard have again volunteered to Head the in-house program for the 2007-2008 season.
It is the goal of your coaches to introduce your child(ren) to the fun
and basic skills of the sport of hockey. We are dedicated to
development, preparation for the next level and fun while doing this.
Keep in mind that while this program is the "lowest" level, it is the most improtant level.
The below schedule will provide you with the upcoming practices for our
team. The Calendar section of our page will give you the full current
schedule - please note, however, the spring/summer program is still in
progress and the starting date of the fall program is still to be
deteremined. Be sure to check this page regularly for changes and
additions.
